Set on a well lanscaped hill surrounded by woods is the two story stone building that looks like a castle. You can park near it and visit the outside and trails partake in the scheduled public events or rent it. It is pretty but not large inside and holds 120 people. It has very pleasant veranda areas. They can provide tables and chairs. It has a kitchenette with large refrigerator, medium freezer and a small range and microwave. There are plenty of electrical outlets in both the downstairs and upstairs/balcony areas and our five crockpots did not trip a fuse. We had a family party there 9.22.2018 and all were impressed. Both the locals who knew of the Castle and those from out of state openly were delighted by it. We had a pot luck buffet anniversary party and it worked well at Winnekenni. The groundskeeper was pleasant, helpful, available and concerned about us. One thing, this landmark is not easy to keep up and a local treasure, so treat it...
Read moreWe didn't enter the castle 🏰 but we did see a suit of armor in the window. There wasn't a Frenchman at the top 🔝 of the castle yelling at us saying "Your mother was a hamster 🐹 and your father smells of elderberries!". I enjoyed exploring the immediate grounds surrounding the castle. They are well maintained. The Fall foliage compliments the small gardens. A Japanese Maple tree grows on the grounds. My friend said she used to bring her kids here. The kids would run down the hill for fun. The section with the trails said it was closed for the season, but, people were walking on them. Dogs allowed but must be leashed. There was a Native American grinding stone 🪨 that I found interesting. A Cucumber 🥒 Magnolia tree is on the property as well. Alert Treebeard! I would like to return at a time when the inside is open. It's worth a visit. A small parking 🅿️ area when the season is closed 🔒. One road in,...
Read moreI did enjoy my walk here, with my brother and nephew. One thing I wish I had known beforehand is that dogs must be ON LEASH at all times, and they mean business as there is the potential for a $100 fine for breaking this rule. It was kind of a bummer since we had brought our two dogs with us thinking they could be off leash and really run. But every time we tried to sneak in a run, someone would come along who seemed displeased by this so we put them back on. There was actually quite a bit of foot traffic for a cold, windy day in February. So I can only imagine how popular this location must be in the summer. We did the big loop around Lake Kenoza and it was a good afternoon walk and very scenic. I would recommend this as a place to take kids and family, just leave the dog home if you don't want to keep...
