We made a reservation for two on 5/6/22 and it was great. We were glad to see others waiting and arriving for the tour. Minimal walking and we were received with a very warm welcome by the tour guide. The tour started right on the clock. The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable, he was able to answer several questions from a bee keeper that was also in attendance. The light refreshment, slice of pie, and honey samples were delicious.

The gift shop was lovely but was disappointed to see that items I observed did not have any price tags or signage with pricing. My husband also thought it was a bit sneaky to present items this way to guests. This was a reason why he did not want to shop. He believes it’s best to have tags or signage and leave it to the customer to decide instead of having them go up to the register and finding out when everything is rung up and you are given the total, other than that everything else was great.

Again the tour guide was awesome, he deserves...

I did a tour here after making a simple reservation the night before. Was easy to do on their website with an email confirmation and the tour is free. I noticed you can also drop in if they have space on the tour you're free to join or if you want just stop by to buy some honey and bee based product. They have a nice little one room museum of bee keeping that is also interesting.

Wasn't hard to find with Google maps and it's a very pretty location. The gals on site were immediately welcoming and friendly. Easy to talk to and approachable. The tour isn't very long but is informative and you can ask questions if you have them. And of course a big part of it being a free tour is that honey is for sale! You know this going in, it's not required but after a tasting it's just about a necessity! I bought enough to have mine shipped for free. What these people do here is very important for a lot of reasons. It's good they also inform the public.

We had such a wonderful experience visiting Big Island Bees! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with tea and a delicious macadamia tart.

Our guide, bee keeper Joe, was absolutely amazing! He’s not only incredibly knowledgeable about bees but also has a way of making everything entertaining and fun to learn. We learned about how the hives thrive here on the island, the important role of the queen bee, and even some surprising facts (like how the male bees don’t really do much 😅).

After the tour and education, we got to sample several different kinds of honey, which was such a treat. Each one was unique and delicious.

We’ve been coming to the island for over 15 years, multiple times a year, and never thought to stop at Big Island Bees until now - and I’m so glad we did. This was definitely a highlight of our trip. Huge thanks to Joe for making the experience so memorable! Highly recommend this stop for anyone...

UNIQUE activity on the big island Hawaii 👀 We’ve all heard of the Dole plantation on Oahu. We actually drove by to “stop in” and saw a parking lot full of thousands of cars. Immediate no for us. We didn’t even get out of the car and left. But while on the big island in Hawaii, we drove by Big Island Bees one day on the west side of the island and knew we needed to stop in. The details: 🐝 Tours and tasting begin at 10am 🐝 Call ahead to schedule a tour 🐝 You can also just stop by to walk through their self guided museum and shop for honey. Yum! We just got lucky, stopped by Big Island Bees right at opening and were able to do a tour. This was BY FAR the most informative and fun local tour I have done in a while. I learned more about bees than I ever knew there was to learn. What we learned on our tour: 🐝 how bee keepers manage the hives 🐝 the daily lives of Queen, worker, and shaker bees 🐝 how bees naturally organize pollen from different types of flowers 🐝 we watched a bee being BORN 😳 🐝 we watched a new queen bee being released 😳 If this is something you want to do, make sure to call ahead and schedule! OPEN MONDAY - FRIDAY 10am to 3pm Big island Hawaii, Hawaii itinerary, Hawaii trip #hawaiistagram #hawaiilove #hawaiian
