Day 3 Itinerary on Hawaii's Big Island

Day 3 Itinerary on Hawaii's Big Island

We went on a day full of rain. Best time to see a waterfall is during or right after a good rainfall. Easy walk from parking lot directly to the lookout. It’s not a hike, just crossing the parking lot. You cannot get close to these falls which is a good thing bc it keeps the falls clean. Download the Shaka app and hear the legends of these falls and other things around the island on a driving tour.

Neat spot to stop at after rainbow falls. Not sure about the boiling pot’s description of the holes just looks like any other fast moving water, didn’t get the “boiling” part. Would be a nice to place to take Grandma as access is good. Would make a great picnic spot as well

This was my favorite spot to visit in Hilo, but it's only worth it if you dare to bypass the restriction fence and swim 2 pools to the waterfalls which I did. It was amazing. It can be dangerous. Don't be stupid about it and you'll be alright. Don't go to pools if they're raging water, don't go if it's flooding, don't swim to the bottom or you could get sucked under. Also you can cross the fence and get to the bottom just to get better views if you're afraid to swim the pools. An elderly person will not be able to make the trek down past the restriction fence. It's a slightly...

Beautiful park to have lunch amd just enjoy the beautiful outdoors Hilo has to offer (not much but beautiful untouched scenery, not like Oahu)u can also swim again highly recommend being a professional swimmer/diver, here too many souls have perished from this very spot the a look at the old story our ancestors taught us about "boiling pots" and the giant mo'o that lurks beneath......still to today....no one has ever found any remains, it has said he's been beaten in the fight and thrown to down the river ending up at the bottom pit of rainbow falls where he still...

Another big island favorite. Easy to access and view. Some do swimming there but I would caution against that, especially on a rainy day unless you are with a local, too many tourist drownings have occurred to not heed warning. With that being said, a very beautiful place to view part of the river system in Hilo. The lookout is easily accessible from the parking area, even by wheelchair if needed. There are also trash receptacles and public restrooms...
