But you wouldn't do this anyway the water is churning and the winds are fierce causing the waves to crash against this Arch with a magnificent Display of Power add Majesty of the ocean as it beats away at the bottom of the Big Island.
If you are in Volcano National park, Drive to the end of the chain of craters Road.
When you reach the turnaround at the chain of Crater Road, you will want to park and continue along the trail even though the map shows the arch right at the turnaround it is actually not, it's a short walk along the closed section of the road and you want to park and walk a few hundred yards. Since the walk is along the road, this can be done easily by someone that is mobility-impaired or possibly, even in a wheelchair.

Drive through the roads of Kalapana, park your vehicle and cover those 6 miles to and back by foot (cycles also available, but I'd recommend otherwise if you can), you'll not regret it (road is gravel base, so calls for proper shoes). Had to walk a lot more on the punishing terrain beyond this point to view the lava but everything was worth it! Take ample water with you, and if you are out on the lava search like me, make sure your shoes can take the temperature of super hot rocks. Take flashlights with you if you are unsure of you making it back before dark. I came back at 10PM, my mobile did the job but was still challenging to walk...
