Not impressed, they could learn a lot from the winery further upcountry. We were met by a guide as we were approaching the shop. She was friendly and explained we could go on a guided 40 minute walking tour followed by a tasting.(she left out the fact that it was a $10 tour) We explained that one of our party was unable to walk for 40 minutes upon which she was less friendly and said we could just go to the store. They had no tasting available without the tour, even though we could walk up to counter where they were doing the tasting. The place is so remote I doubt it's a problem with people coming there just to sample every day! We intended on purchasing the vodka and newly released rum, however they only had one size of the rum and the vodka is cheaper in any ABC store, combine that with the attitude and we passed. At the winery we got to sample 3 samples for free, the tour is free if you want to go but you don't have to. We bought 4 bottles from the winery, NONE from Ocean vodka. Overall I wouldn't go back, the staff in the store seemed bored, and the other staff was only interested if you were...
Read moreWhen I was looking for places to visit in Maui, this was not a place that showed up on any travel blog or website I searched. Which is a HUGE mistake. This distillery is truly remarkable. It sits perched on the side of a mountain near Haleakala and you get a great view of the sunset. We did the spirits tasting and tour. The tour was brief but informative and fun. Followed by the tasting, which was both really fun and engaging! We definitely have a new favorite rum :). In fact, after the tour we ended up coming back again the following day for sunset with food and drinks. They have an excellent menu and even better drink menu (of course!). The place was filled with locals and all of their family and friends for sunset. Truly an enjoyable experience! 10/10 would recommend anyone looking to experience something off the beaten path and especially away...
Read moreFor $10 you get a tour of the property which includes education about sugar cane and their operations. I had no idea there was more than one type of sugar cane. Apparently there was more than 50+ in Hawaii before big-AG settled on the single top producer. They have a native field planted with just Hawaiian cane.
Apparently the state of Hawaii is still considering what to do about allowing them to have a tasting room, so the tour doesn't include any tastings. They've planted an herb garden and fruit garden though in anticipation of being able to make you a martini with their Vodka and any fresh herbs you choose.
Everyone we met was super friendly. It is also less than a mile from Surfing Goat Dairy so it's a good add-on tour if you're...
