I give the natural Island part of everything a five-star because, well, it's our planet Earth. I'm going to give zero stars to the surrounding hotels which keep us from being able to access much better locations. The reason why this spot is even here is so that it gives us a place to park and walk 1 mile to almost 3 miles to get to a really nice place to where we can enjoy the beach. The reason why we cannot just drive up and park at the parking lots which are close to these amazing places is because they've planted hotels on top of them and gave us no proper beach access. I give 1 star to the facilities, the bathrooms are embarrassing. If you need to use the toilet you're basically aiming your junk right at people as they walk into the bathroom while you're on the pot, no doors, no privacy. It's a joke being that there are very expensive resorts all around yet they can't put doors on the stalls or soap in the dispenser. Basically one big F-U to the locals, complete BS. Well,...

ONLY ACCESSIBLE FROM MAUNA LANI SIDE. The area next to the park is referrd to as the old Ruddle place, Nani Paniau, or Paniau on the Puako side. It is largely a local resident/neighbor hang out. If you aren't local or a resident, it's best to respect the space as you would private property. Holoholokai is more developed but largely undiscovered. No sandy beach here, good spearfishing, surf in winter but only for the experienced-locals, turtle/whale watching. Showers only on ML side but there's a port a john on Puako Side (no sewer system in Puako), can park here to walk along Puako coastline (shore is public in Hawai'i), Puako road, or take a long bike...

We stopped by for a hike on a Wednesday morning, hoping to see some turtles. The beach was a beautiful mixture of lava rocks and coral, with interesting trees all around. There were many tide pools by the ocean with lots of neat creatures (we saw crabs, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and an eel!) The big highlight was that we caught a glimpse of sea turtles around noon. The park is well-maintained and there are plenty of picnic tables and grills close by. This park is such a lovely gem-I highly recommend it to anyone in the Waikoloa...

One of my favorite coastal hiking trails to go hiking. You feel so remote. I start here at the beach park where the black lava rock and bleached Coral give an otherworldly scene. Follow the trail north as long as you desire you will find secluded places to watch sunset and tide pools. Keep hiking and you’ll discover one of the most amazing coast lines you’ll ever see. It makes you really feel out in the middle of the pacific. I’ve included pics from two different times, 2023 and 2015

Visited this beach while checking out the nearby Puakō Petroglyph Preserve. A good stretch of the beachfront here is walkable at lower tides (but not swimmable) and has many large and small tidepools. I spotted 4 turtles on a quick trip up the beach. Bathrooms, picnic tables and barbeques are all on site. A nice, quiet neighborhood beach option, with some stunning views (and you should check out the Puakō Petroglyph Preserve as well).
