Menehune Fishpond Overlook — Attraction in Hawaii

This was a very interesting site with some neat plaques containing historical information. It's really only good for a 10-15 minute stop from the road, but worth dropping past - especially as an already route when traffic is heavy in Lihu'e. I learned that the Menehune actually predated the arrival of the Polynesians and were responsible for many of the large engineering feats in the history of the island before Europeans found their way there. Interestingly, that is not something that is often mentioned at many of the other sites...

Beautiful place to stop and view the pond with a majestic view and background of the mountains from an elevated position. Taking pictures with a blue sky and soft white/gray clouds will provide a perfect picture!

Read the plaques for a little history of the area. Nice leisurely drive on curved two lane highway. Beautiful scenery the entire way. Visit area every year. One time a local was flying a drone out over the pond to get some...

This overlook is very scenic and gave great views over in most directions. The traffic was very light during the time we went, which was around 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. We were able to get some great photos during our visit. There is very little to no parking on the curve for this overlook. There is also no cost associated with visiting this overlook.
