Its a safe place to play in the ocean on this side of the island even when its a high wind day. We have seen sea turtles here several times. There is opportunity to view fish and coral while doing light snorkling as well. In the "winter" months the water gets a lil gross from different currents, so visit in the warmer months. Always watch out for broken glass and fishing lures. Even though there are trash cans everywhere we spend a decent amount of time picking up after others to give back to our community. There are picnic tables, swings, bathrooms, and most of the time a lifeguard. We visit a few times a month and its busy randomly during the week and weekends. No police around so dont leave items in your vehicle.

This is a great beach for kids, even in high tide, and you can make a whole day of it. The beach is sandy on the bottom so water shoes are not required. The whole area is fairly protected with a large rock wall, and the depth is about 3.5 feet at the highest generally. There are lifeguards on duty, picnic tables, a large grassy area, and open ocean access for the more adventurous. For small kids, there is a super shallow area with a ramp where they can wade and play in the sand. The beach park ask has a swingset (4 swings) and a bathroom facility. There are two parking areas and there are stairs and a ramp for accessibility.

The FAMILY Beach! This is and will always be my go-to beach! It’s wonderful for children and first time swimmers. When first moved here this was the first beach I came to. I met a wonderful lady named “Rose”. Rose gave me friendship, clothing, and advice. I love Rose and this amazing beach. You can bring your children to this beach because the water level is low due to the break wall that was built. It’s one of the best beaches in on The Big Island! I recommend.

Very nice place to relax & enjoy your lunch while admiring the ocean & it's waves. There is a area where you can go in to swim very shallow & with a wave block great for kids under adults supervision. No lifeguard's in that area. They have bathroom facility's also pavilions with picnic tables too. Ideal for families. Be respectful of others there so do supervise your children & keep them close to your area... Have a wonderful time and keep safe there.

This is one of the best places to bring kids. It is a sheltered area that has virtually no current and zero waves. The area is loaded with crabs and small fish which wake it a great place for the Littles to learn and practice their snorkeling. The area has restrooms and it has plenty of picnic tables. For the most part the swimming is over a sand bottom. Some water shoes would be nice to have if you are going to walk around on the rocks.

O-ne-kaha-kaha. My kids adored this park and beach. The breakwater provides for a a safer place to swim then most other beaches. However, it is still the ocean so never turn your back and keep a close eye on your kids. It is handicapped friendly as there is a ramp into the water. There are different pavilions. One has electrical outlets but they don't seem to work. Also bathrooms and a park. Plenty of parking and BBQ grills.
