We have been coming to Hawaii since 1975. Our favorite island is the Big island of Hawaii. We usually arrive in Hilo from Oregon as the rental car check in is so much easier, just a walk across the street from the terminal. That said we usually stay at Hilo Hawaiian Castle brand hotel on the bay but we wanted a longer stay and a kitchen so we booked the Hilo Beach House. The directions and check in was quite and easy. The unit we booked had a full kitchen and one king bed. Everything was very clean and the kitchen equipped with the basics. The coffee maker was a keuireg (spelling ☹️) that is resupplied on request but I prefer Starbucks instant packs that I brought. The view is great but you are looking through a fully screened Lani. Nice for keeping the bugs out etc and able to have the doors open all night etc. If you are bothered by noise the house is solid and very new otherwise the ting frogs and bird song is quite loud.No noise with the window closed. The beach is a county park so expect lots of people enjoying the nice protected beach and they stay way past dark with partying and music. We would return here again as it is convenient to our favorite beach park Carl Smith just...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed two nights at the Hilo Beach House Inn on Oct. 18 and 19. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience there and would gladly go back.
The owner, Chris, met us upon arrival. He was very personable and friendly. The next day he met us again to say that he would be away for the evening in case we needed anything while he was out.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable. It's tiled throughout. From your balcony you get a view of a public beach and sea wall. The lanai doors have shutters to block the view when you need privacy. The bathroom is modern with a vessel sink and a large walk-in shower.
"The pond" as Chris called it is a sand-bottomed swimming area at the aforementioned public beach that's good for wading in or doing a little swimming. Local children seemed to love it. At 6"2' it mostly only came up to my knees. But there is a deeper spot...
Read moreWe had a great stay at the Hilo Beach House Inn. Before arriving the property manager was quick to respond to my questions and provide all needed information. This property is off the beaten path on a private road with a gated entrance. It is surrounded on 3 sides by beautiful lush foliage and the back side of the property borders Onekahakaha Beach Park with a view of the ocean. The room was spotless, and it is evident great care has been taken to maintain this special property. We enjoyed having breakfast on the balcony each morning in a quiet and relaxing setting. The rental included use of a keurig, microwave, fridge, hair dryer, and shower toiletries. We utilized the utility box on the lower level which offered beach chairs, snorkel equipment, and flotation devices. There is a path directly to the beach from this rental.Highly recommend this...
