Palapala Ho‘omau Congregational Church — Attraction in Hawaii

before the days of GPS, 1974, i used a paper map in tour of the islands. I drove around them where a rental car could go, having planned my trip months in advance, and researched well from home, the many locations. This little church is on a short hidden drive entrance and easy to miss, but once you are there and take your time to walk the grounds and go inside the church, you will find it a very inspiring and humble experience,,,,its well maintained, or was way back then. I plan to go again soon...

We went yesterday, but could not find this place due to the vagueness of the maps. If you visit, plot the route carefully on Google maps, even using GSP coordinates. Another way might be to ask Google for the exact distance from the Haleakala National Park parking lot to where you make the left (toward the sea) to get to the church. This beautiful church is very remote and located on the Road to Hana. The church was built in 1857 out of lava rock and limestone coral. It is very unique. The grounds are well kept and it is very serene. The property abuts the coastline and the view is very nice. Charles Lindbergh is buried here. This is a very quiet spot to stop...
