Great hiking. The road down is tricky , bumpy and back up is steep after hiking near the black sand beach. There are a lot of Ropes down there so that you can swing on them. There was some people swimming but we decided not to get in. There was a lot of rocks around the beach area. Lots of good views on the way down. Make sure to bring some water and snacks as it takes about 30 minutes to go down and backup.

We didn’t have a lot of time to enjoy the park as much as we would have liked, but viewing the Kīlauea eruption at night was amazing. If you expect to see the flow age with some privacy, think twice. The viewing area was shoulder to shoulder and your ability to view at your leisure was limited.

This is a great place to stop and go hiking around the crater. Its also a great place to see the nene (Hawaiian goose) and there were a few around when we were there in March. Parking fills up quickly so best to get here early if you actually want to do the full Kilauea Iki Trail.

Very happy to say that the park service has finally removed the trees and brush that have been obscuring the view for years! I like to visit the overlook at sunrise to see the clouds nestled in the crater. It gives you a really spooky feeling. You can access the overlook by driving to it or by parking in the Devastation Trail parking lot and doing the easy 0.5 mile hike. I recommend the hike, there is cool volcanic scenery and the birdsong...

Volcano 🌋 National Park at crater area, not the annex 30 mile away. Is awesome 👌 that everyone should do at least once, even if it's not erupting. Tropical Jungle, lots of craters, trail, steam vents, lava tube, petroglyphs, visitor center, campground with supplies, wilderness camping, mini cabins, hotel, 2 restaurants, mid-price and decent price formal gourmet, gift shops. ...
