Very happy to say that the park service has finally removed the trees and brush that have been obscuring the view for years! I like to visit the overlook at sunrise to see the clouds nestled in the crater. It gives you a really spooky feeling. You can access the overlook by driving to it or by parking in the Devastation Trail parking lot and doing the easy 0.5 mile hike. I recommend the hike, there is cool volcanic scenery and the birdsong...
Read moreGreat hiking. The road down is tricky , bumpy and back up is steep after hiking near the black sand beach. There are a lot of Ropes down there so that you can swing on them. There was some people swimming but we decided not to get in. There was a lot of rocks around the beach area. Lots of good views on the way down. Make sure to bring some water and snacks as it takes about 30 minutes to go...
