Uekahuna — Attraction in Hawaii

A good viewpoint looking over the main Kīlauea crater. A good reminder about the power of nature, even when there isn’t an eruption as there is usually steam rising from the ground. When there is an eruption, I’d imagine that this would be a prime place to view it.

@Kyro Chickering are you seriously giving this place one star because you didn’t do any research beforehand and assumed that there would be an active eruption on the day of your visit? It looks like your lack of research also led you to think that the entirety of the park is to the west of the visitor center, so you missed Thurston Lava tube, Kīlauea Iki crater, and the entire Chain of Craters drive. One of the most unreal and peaceful places I’ve ever stood. Uēkahuna sits up at the edge of the caldera, and the view is something I’ll never forget. Just seeing how massive and alive the volcano is makes you feel small in the best way. There’s a silence here that hits different almost sacred. I came late in the day and caught the sky changing over the crater as the sun went down, and it gave me chills. The walk to the overlook was easy and totally worth it. If you're doing the volcano park, make sure you stop here and just take it all in for a few minutes....
