I am so glad I took my 2-year-old and his grandparents here! I had no idea how much fun we would have! Mr. Bob welcomed us in and shared interesting stories and photos right away. I was relieved to see there was a child’s train track table set up that my son could actually touch and play with an age appropriate train. Many places aren’t very child-friendly, but this one is! And Mr. Bob was so patient and calm when my son wanted to touch the more elaborate electric trains. He let him operate the control for the horn, bell, and speed. He also found a couple of pieces my son could place on the tracks and hold. Everything here far exceeded my expectations of this little historical marker. The exhibits, especially radio and telegraph equipment, and the running electric trains, were so absolutely engaging. Totally worth the drive to check it out. You can easily spend a hour here looking everything over and listening to Mr. Bob. There is a big grassy area out front, too. Kids can run around in this fenced area. You might even picnic in the gazebo if you wanted. There were no ticket sales, so we added cash to the donation to improve exhibits jar, and we all left so happy. This was a perfect three-generation outing. I highly recommend visiting the...

Small but interesting museum built by refurbishing an actual train station building. The railway track is still active though only used by freight trains. The museum features real artifacts from the past, e.g., morse code system, caps and badges used by train staff.

The model trains are the main highlight. The models depict intricate details of the trains as well as the landscape. Kudos to Bob for the great work!

The museum has meetings for the local community of model lovers. Kids will love this place, especially the models.

Even if the models don't attract you initially, just focus on one train or a specific landscape. You'll soon be appreciating the subtelities and...

The Hearne Depot is an amazing piece of railroad history! There are so many artifacts to see that you can easily spend an hour looking at all they have on display. Bob and Jan are amazing hosts that treat you like family. I encourage you to bring the family and your questions to the depot. Bob will take the time to share his knowledge with you while bringing a smile to your face. They plan plenty of activities throughout the year and have a layout on display. Visitors are encouraged to participate and children are most welcome! I suggest you watch their social media to see upcoming events because you will have fun and learn...

Actual, refurbished train station from Hearne's days as a passenger rail stop. The displays were very informative, and filled in a few gaps from lore I had heard from living near the tracks further down the line. The host, who actually knew the station when it was active, provided even more information. We were lucky enough to go on a day when a model railroading group had set up their operation for the weekend. My 11 year-old daughter, who resisted going, had to be pried away. Glad we finally stopped.
