My wife Gwen and I decided to spend our whole day together today, so we thought a drive to Hermann for Octoberfest would be just what we needed.
We took Hwy 94 from Weldon Spring, enjoying the beautiful fall foliage, the roller-coaster hills, picturesque small towns, the lavish, sprawling wineries, and the mighty and wide Missouri as it meandered through the scenic landscapes of Missouri.
We decided to have a leisurely German-fare lunch at Hermanhof Winery, one of our favorite places to eat and relax on a lovely fall day that was full of plenty of blue sky and white, fluffy clouds!
The German polka music and Bavarian hiking costumes worn by some of the Halloween celebrants in the wine garden added to a festive spirit and seemed to be the perfect addition to German brats, sauerkraut, potato salad, and potato cakes with apple sauce, topped off by root beer made from an 1836 recipe.
We highly recommend the drive, the scenery, the delicious food and drinks, and the old-world charm of this lovely, historic, and truly unique riverfront community!
