The staff at all of the wineries were great. We were looking forward to the tasting menu but were very disappointed in two of food tastings.
The most frustrating thing was at the end of our tour. We ended the trail at OakGlenn Vineyards and Winery. On our way to park, two young men were stopping vehicles and trolleys before they made there to the parking area. They were charging $5 a person for a cover for the band that was supposedly playing. We were extremely upset by this as we had already paid our $30 for our ticket (we were a party of 6). We told them that we had Wild Bacon Wine Trail tickets. They told us that we either needed to pay the $5 cover charge or go up, turn around, and leave. That made us even more upset. We parked, went up where the tasting took place, and asked about the cover charge. The people there told us that starting in May, they have a band on Saturday nights and they start charging covers at 4pm. We arrived at 3:45pm. We said that we came here for the Wild Bacon Wine Trail and not the band. The person stood by the $5 cover charge and shared that another Winery on the trail does the same thing (Adam Puchta). When we were at Adam Puchta earlier in the day, we didn't see a sign about a $5 cover charge.
Nowhere on our information regarding the Wild Bacon Wine Trail talked about their being cover charges after a certain time. Not only that but the Wine Trail was from 10am - 5pm not 4pm.
We talked to several other people who were there for the Wild Bacon Wine Trail about the cover. They were as upset as we were. They told us that they took the trolley to get there and if people refused to pay the $5 cover they were asked to get off the trolley. That was jaw dropping.
If we had we known this was going to happen, we would have made OakGlenn one of our first stops. Instead, we ended up being extremely frustrated at the end of...
Read moreI just participated in the Chocolate Wine Trail. I had mixed feelings. Since this was a February event, it would be nice if each winery could plan better for the cold temps. Adam Puchta did the best job - had a large tent with plenty of seating and a heater blowing in the tent. It would be nice if the other wineries that are too small to house a large group could do something similar. I had to stand and eat/drink at 3 of the locations (not ideal). It would also be nice for the employees to try and pour the same amount of wine (and for some of the wineries to increase the amount poured - at 1 of the wineries I don't think the pour was even 1/4 an inch - maybe 3 sips) For how tiny the glasses are, I would think you could at least fill it 1/3 full. I was also surprised to see Robller as part of the trail since it is about a 20 minute drive from Hermann.
The positive - there were some great pairings - the mousse, chocolate chip muffins and cheesecake bars were my...
Read morethis was an awful experience. We went for a birthday weekend to do wine tasting so we bought these "special" tickets. They ONLY give you ONE sample of wine of their choice and of course they were all dry wines which we are not a fan of. I feel we should have gotten at least 3 samples of our own choice at each place. It was a complete joke and waste of money!! You are better off purchasing trolley tickets for all day and go to the wineries and pay for your own samples. Needless to say we did not buy any wine because we could not taste others unless we wanted to spend money over the $35 we had already spent. Such a disappointment, especially after driving 4...
