Our family visits this park frequently, especially the playground area, nature trails, and pier. It's a beautiful, free, family-oriented environment. As with everywhere else in NC, warmer weather brings snakes & fire ants. It would be nearly impossible to keep up with all the fire ants mounds every moment of every day, but they DO treat them & try to keep them under control. There are restrooms available, inside the center (during business hours), & near the playground/ballfields. Concessions are available during sporting events as well. We are fortunate to have the Rec Center and such a beautiful nook to enjoy nature, sports, and time with friends/family. It grieves me tremendously to see all the trash that people throw into the water areas, playground, and ballfields. After sporting events, the fields are littered with empty Gatorade & water bottles, food wrappers, etc. YES, there ARE trash bins placed all over the area, but children AND adults just carelessly throw such items on the ground, in the creeks & other water areas. Respecting property and such natural resources is something that must be taught to our children, but when adults don't show such respect, consideration, & responsibility, neither do the children. Perhaps people would better learn to appreciate our Rec Center and park if they were fined each time they littered, or if the Center was "closed for litter clean up" during peak hours! Please put trash where it belongs, & clean up after your dogs. Keeping the area clean is NOT just the responsibility of the Park Service, & it helps discourage the presence of wild critters, which keeps us safer...
