Rey Chavez Distributors Corporation — Attraction in Hialeah

Never in my shopping experience have I been told to check my bag. I refused because I felt like this is an invasion of privacy and they are assuming everyone can be a thief. The manager was called and I asked under what right or law can he check people's personal belongings. I asked "do you have proof that I took something?" He said no it’s just policy. After much back and forth he was not even sure. I called the cops to see if this man was violating any rights. At this point the manager said, well maybe I don't have the right I will have to hear it from the police. So this man was not even sure. CONCLUSION: After consulting with a friend lawyer that I called because cops in Hialeah are useless (never showed up), I was told that If they have a sign posted, they could look into bags. But you DONT have to show them. They can't make you like the manager was telling me. The manager said that these rules had to be put in place after they integrated the black community into shopping there. RACIST! The meats/fish are cheap because it comes from CHINA! If you come across a product from another country, you see a significant change in price. Don't trust food from china. They have no regulations and it’s hard for FDA to control the quality of food that comes from there. I even saw a pack of fish that uses CARBON MONOXIDE to freeze it (a small amount is ok to ingest, but who knows how much the Chinese put on those fish). Something else that caught my attention, was the olive oil. Very good price but when you look closely at the small letters, it says 90% sunflower oil and 10% olive oil. So why is the label "OLIVE OIL" in huge print if it’s not made mostly of that? Very deceiving. The fruits and vegetables were not that fresh. I saw spinach starting to rot inside the bag.

Is saving a few bucks worth all this? FYI the address to the store is: (not sure if they did not update to the new address) Rey...

I had a very disappointing experience at this store. My mother purchased a box of eggs, and due to the store’s poor packaging (the bottom of the box wasn’t properly taped), the eggs fell and shattered in the parking lot as soon as she lifted them from the cart. This happened right after purchase, and it was clearly due to defective packaging—not customer mishandling.

When we brought this to the store’s attention, they refused to offer a refund or even an exchange, simply because the eggs broke outside the building. I understand policies exist, but it’s unreasonable to deny any responsibility when the issue started with how the store packaged the product.

This lack of accountability and poor customer service was incredibly frustrating. A simple gesture of goodwill—like replacing the eggs—would have gone a long way. Instead, we were left to deal with the mess and the loss.

We have been loyal customers for years, but we are very disappointed and we will never be...
