You can see a Mount Rushmore tunnel view as you are driving through Scovel Johnson Tunnel when you drive Iron Mountain Road TO Mount Rushmore. it is a one-way tunnel from south to north and fascinating to see Mt Rushmore from here. Driving through the Iron Mountain Road tunnels also means that you’ll be driving through Black Hills National Forest.

The tunnels — are carved from granite to create roads through the Black Hills while doing as little harm as possible to the scenic landscape

Fact from the web: was named for the man who built the Needles Highway. He also did survey work on the Iron Mountain Road and contributed to the layout of...

Every wonder what a roller coaster would be like in the real world? Well, wonder no more! This road is amazing! You will feel like a race car driver as you wind your way through narrow forest roads filled with ups, downs and “pigtail” corkscrew turns. Weeeeeeeeee!!!! You will marvel at breathtaking mountain views surrounded by pine trees, leading you through some stunning photo ops—tunnels that showcase a distant Mount Rushmore are the highlights, of course.

Don’t miss this wonder of both nature and...

Good place for a photo opportunity. It's unmarked so watch for pull-off areas on the side of the road. As you can imagine, the best location to take a photo of this is whilst in the middle of the road. Mind the traffic of busses, other vehicles, and motorcycles. It wasn't bad at all while we were there in the middle of the day. Everyone else who was stopping to do the same was courteous and friendly. This is a wonderfully scenic drive. Take your time and enjoy the curvy road and gorgeous...

It’s a nice stretch of road but there is hardly any parking and Mt Rushmore is too far to see with the naked eye. You have to get off the car and zoom in with your phone to catch a good glance. The problem is the fact that the mountain is only visible when you stand right in the middle of the road which is somewhat of a hazard. Still is a good experience and a must if you have travelled all the way to South Dakota.
