The orchid greenhouses (there are several!) at Duke Farms are absolutely magical. Make sure you see ALL the rooms that are open, including the rooms where they grow the orchids and you can see them in all different phases of growth. The second room, where the ‘fragrant orchids’ are concentrated, is through a door - don’t be scared to explore: the rooms that are off limits are clearly marked. I visited alone on a quiet day during the week. I took my time in all the rooms and spent about an hour total exploring. Plan for around that, give or take if you are with people or kids. Note that the greenhouses are a bit of a walk from the one parking lot. While the parking lot is large and centrally located, the property is huge and it’s largely used for conservation and education these days so they encourage walking. They do say they offer shuttle transportation for those who need it. This review is only for my experience at the orchid house; I can’t wait to explore the rest of the beautiful property....
