My family of six decided to give the new ownership the â3 Strikesâ rule and unfortunately they struck out! This occurred over 3 visits to the Diner: 1. There is a difference between a hotcake and a pancake, and it was obvious Macâs recipe was not followed, since the âpancakesâ were twice as thick as what the âhotcakesâ used to be and had little flavor; in addition, please learn how to fry a medium egg. 2. Get a new cashier, maybe one who has the ability to smile; gives you the greeting of the day when you walk in or approach the register; or can actually say Thank You after you pay. The big red head with tattooâs and no personality needs to be canned, since she is unable to perform any of the above! 3. The wait staff is pathetic, especially the big red head, again with no personality and canât understand the wifeâs simple request for a lemon for her water after we had already ordered, which after 15 minutes, another waitress asked if weâve been served and again, the lemon for the water was requested. After a ten minute wait for the lemon, along with no signs of our breakfast being brought out â we left and will not return. And the new menu â you can shove it with the rather substantial increase in prices! ...
Read moreTried out The Hillsville Diner for the first time since it changed hands. I had breakfast: pancakes, gravy, eggs, sausage, and sweet tea. I will begin by saying it's definitely not the same as it was when Mac owned it, but it's still good. The pancakes (or hotcakes, as they now call them) were delicious, but much larger and thicker than they used to be, The gravy was also much thicker and spicier (sausage gravy) than what I used to get. Mac actually offered "pancakes and gravy" as a menu item, but now you must order it separately. I know it's an odd combination to many people, but I grew up eating pancakes that way made by my grandparents, so after they passed, getting them at the diner exactly the way they made them really took me back. Everything else was good, no complaints. Scrambled eggs, sausage patties. Absolutely fantastic value as well, you can't beat the prices. Will definitely return, was just a little saddened by...
Read moreStopped in for breakfast since I hadn't tried it before. We ordered two hungry breakfast plates which consisted of one biscuit and gravy, 2 eggs and 2 strips of bacon per plate we both ordered a drink and home fries. The total was over 21 dollars!!!! That is crazy. The gravy was packaged, the eggs were overcooked. Home fries weren't bad, although they had garlic salt on them. Which wasn't terrible, i just wouldn't have ordered them had I known. The price was my main concern. For almost 25 dollars for two people, the food should have been made fresh not out of a package. Hardees is less than half the cost of what I paid, and twice as good. Wouldn't go back unless they make...
