This is a really interesting beach and worth the visit especially if youāre wanting to find shark teeth on Hilton Head.
We came to this beach at different times.
Once at mid-tide, which was neat for a nature walk. We found a few shark teeth, not many, but enjoyed the evening walking around looking at wildlife.
There are a TON of conch shells here with hermit crabs inside of them. My kids enjoyed picking them up and watching them move around.
We came again at higher tide, and the wind was crazy! The kids had a good time splashing in the water that day.
The final time we came, we visited at low tide and spent the majority of our time playing in tide pools and looking for shark teeth (we found about 10, which is the best we did on the island, but they were all on the smaller side and you had to work to find them - very different experience than say, Folly Beach, where you can spot them while walking). My mother in law did not have great success finding shells as she had hoped for, but that was true the entire trip, not just here. Hilton Head is not ideal for shelling.
The wind here was crazy one day and then totally non-existent the next. At low tide, this beach (which is on a sound) goes for three football fields before youāre at the water. And that distance is mostly just sand, hermit crabs, and pluff mud. I hated stepping in the pluff mud because it sucks you down a little like quicksand. But it was interesting stuff and unique to find on a beach.
This is just a really different beach than any weāve been to and because we enjoy wildlife and experiencing unique places, we enjoyed it here.
Itās also not crowded, lots of parking, a place to shower off when youāre done at the beach, and there are clean restrooms.
We would come back again but probably just for a walk as our kids didnāt enjoy the beach as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis morning at fish haul beach we were walking back toward the entrance/exit of Fish Haul Beach. We always take notice of the people around us, as we would never allow our dogs to approach people or other dogs on leash. I like to think we are responsible and caring of others rights to appreciate the beach with their four legged besties. We were leisurely walking at the waters edge and I happened to notice a lady w two small dogs( at the dunes) go running run off of the beach (We assumed it was bc if rain). Our dogs never acknowledged her or her dogs and were too far away to to illicit any fear. Let me restate that our dogs NEVER SAW, APPROACHED, OR HAD CONTACT WITH HER OR HER DOGS. We continued our morning ritual, enjoying the waves/ doggie swims/ and lots of ball chasing UNTIL.....
5 min later she came back to beach without her dogs. She WAS running toward us yelling and calling for us. Khan our black lab/terrier mix who loves head rubs and lots of attention went to greet her. Normally, we would have calls him back however we thought she was coming to say Hi....
Unbeknowst to us she was approaching us to scold us about our dogs off leash (which is legal and we were more than 200yards from her when she spotted us) and she took HER dogs to car. She came back to beach and was holding a KNIFE and screaming that dogs neeedd to be on leash BC they will attack her and her dogs! She literally pulled a knife as she walked toward us cussing us about our āunsafe animal
Most people on this ālocal beachā have their dogs off leash and are respectful and kind and love to play. Iām hoping this lady is a vacationer and will never return.
Iām still anxiety ridden over my experience today and might stick to our second fave dog beach (Burkeās).

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited this beach during our visit to the area because we visited right at the beginning of "no doggies on the beach during the day...season". This is the only beach in the area we could find that would allow our puppy to visit during the day.
It is most definitely a hidden gem! We initially thought our Google map lady was trying to take us somewhere to be kidnapped, but then we looked up, and there it was! Very nice restroom amenities in the park building, and adequate parking for mid-morning.
We were there at low tide, which allowed for a substantial amount of beach for the kids to play on, and the older girls to "sun" on. It wasn't too crowded, and we were able to walk down the beach a long way. There were TONS of shells of all different shapes and sizes. Also a bazillion dead jellyfish on the beach, but obviously nothing that can be controlled. We didn't see much wildlife, probably due to the cold-ish water, and windy weather (and our puppy who barked at every single wave)
Bottom line, it was a fantastic place to spend the day with our puppy (and kids..lol). It wasn't crowded, and didn't have the typical "beach" feel to it; it was mostly families. We definitely...
