the Elephant Sanctuary is home to many retired circus elephants so they can live out their lives in a beautiful peaceful setting on over 2,200 Acres. They have a Discovery Center right downtown where you can learn about each of the elephants that are out there and even watch the elecam that is a live feed of the different areas the elephants live in. There is a habitat for the Asian elephants and one for the African elephants and one for the elephants that are quarantined because of their exposure to TB during their circus lives. But you can learn about them, watch them on the video feed and enjoy a lot of interactive exhibits there as well as talk to the people working there that are experts on everything about these elephants. You'll probably end up with a few tears in your eyes when you think about the sad life these elephants had when they lived chained up and only got off those chains when they were in the circus arena, but now they have thousands of acres to roam freely on and the most amazing medical staff and caretakers that give them the life they deserve so they can live out their natural lives in peace and comfort. You do not get to see the elephants other than on the video feeds so they are not disturbed in any way but it is still worth the trip out there to go to the Discovery Center and enjoy the beautiful little city of Hohenwald. one of the residents there is surely, the third oldest elephant in North America. She just celebrated her 70th birthday a few months ago at the sanctuary. You can even adopt an elephant and help with the ongoing process of feeding them and helping to pay with some of their medical needs and their vitamins. Every dollar makes a difference at this...

Barbara (elefante asiática) vive aquí en El Refugio De Elefantes De Hohenwald. .

Publicó The Ballantine Publishing Group y Editorial Atlántida .

I want you to read this: This is a beautiful and wonderful idea 💜 I only wish it was for every elephant and not just retirees. Elephants are my favorite animals. Not only for being majestic but because it’s one of the closest most realest things I can get to dinosaurs time. We really need to appreciate them more and the way these beautiful creatures get treated everyday is so horrible. I watched these people ride on them 6 people at a time at a renaissance fair just so people can make money. But what tourists and customers didn’t realize is how unhappy these elephants looked and probably wondering on when it will end. The workers treated them as if they are slaves and were holding bull hooks. One elephant was even bleeding and the workers didn’t care to take action for these poor elephants. That goes for any animals honestly. Horses go through the same thing everyday. Just stop. They are living too and have feelings. However we chose to understand these animals is on us.

But good on you elephant sanctuary. I’m glad to see some places want better for them 💜 I hope these elephants are able to finally be happy and free to live and...

We have been reading about Osh the elephant of the Oakland Zoo. My granddaughter( 5 yrs old)asked me to say mahalo and aloha to the people of the Tennessee sanctuary for being helpful. We were Very Surprised to hear about this great place since we Only know about the music and "strong beverage " from there 😲!? My granddaughter Nani hopes to be able to visit there 1 day and mentioned " they allow us to volunteer " , which is a good question for the summer? Again, much Mahalo " thanks" for sharing your passion with Osh. Aloha "love" from Honolulu HI 🤙.

Had a fantastic time here. Watched the live elecam while learning about the elephants. The lady who was there was incredibly informative and helpful. She answered all of our questions, and all of the interactive learning was so fun! Bought some fun merch, and we are hoping to donate to help support these wonderful elephants! It's a great way to spend some time here in Hohenwald.
