Oak Hill Farms — Attraction in Holmdel Township

I have visited Oak Hills Farms previously and had an enjoyable experience. I loved that finally the Middletown area had a local and reasonable priced farm. However, as a customer after my experience today I am sad to say I will not be returning to support this farm.

My partner and I visited At Home General Store and ordered some food. We figured why not walk across to Oak Hill Farms and while waiting purchase some local products. I happened to have ordered a coffee and carried my drink across, and into the store with me. I was in the middle of shopping products, and it was evident I was going to make a purchase at Oak Hill Farms. A woman approached me stating outside drinks are not allowed in the store and I am to leave. I simply said okay, and left. My partner and I also put down all of the products we were planning to purchase. I was not disrupting the business and did not answer back in a condescending manner to be asked to leave a store.

As someone who shops local consistently I thought as a paying customer I would be greeted in a positive manner as I am trying to support local businesses. I can understand that the business would like to support their own products, however, my coffee mug did not have a AT HOME logo on it nor any brand names. I can not blame the employees as they are following rules set forth by the owner. This experience showed me that the farm is not supporting of other local businesses as I am sure as many walk over while waiting for their food, but also my sale is not appreciated.

I just feel that in this economy as other businesses suffer this farm should be more appreciative of their consumers. I will purchase my local honey now from very friendly ladies in Keyport I met at the Hazlet Farmers Market, and buy my other products at vendors who appreciate their customers and other fellow...

My partner brought a coffee into the store. While we were shopping and clearly planning to make a purchase, a woman working at Oak Hill Farms approached and stated that outside drinks were not allowed and that we needed to leave. Cute place and great for kids. There were animals, and the pumpkin patch was fun, and best of all, there was no admission fee. However, the woman at the farm shop was quite rude. They were preparing for Christmas, so when we were looking at them, she told us in a strong tone, "This is not for sale yet." Even though we hadn't said we were going to buy it! When I went to buy other items, there was no one at the register, so I called out to a young female store clerk in the cafe, but instead of coming to the register right away, she suddenly started putting out Christmas products. I told her I was in a bit of a hurry and wanted her to wrap the fragile item, but she was inexperienced and didn't do anything. A slightly rude older female salesperson came over and sorted it out, but she purposely took her time preparing the items. I was not treated unfairly by them, so it was a very unpleasant experience.
