Jet Ski Oahu — Attraction in Honolulu

TL/DR: We were turned away by the captain in a rude and condescending manner. The captain even lied to us to turn us away. The owner Dennis was more sensible but seemed powerless to remedy the situation. He didn’t give appropriate training to his employee (captain) on how to treat tourists with respect and care.

Context: We have a 12 year old daughter that is autistic. Prior to this Jet Ski tour, we had been to a number of boat tours including a snorkeling and swim with sharks tour. There were no problems at all. We are confident our daughter would be able to join as an observer in this Jet Ski activity.

What happened: When we met the captain, we explained our daughter would be an observer while my wife and I would ride the Jet Ski. The captain exclaimed “I AM NOT DOING BABY SITTING!”. I told him from their website that the observer age requirement is 8+ years old. The captain claimed the age requirement is 18+ years old (THIS IS A LIE). We made a concession and stated my wife and I would take turns to ride the jet ski and there would always be one accompanying my daughter. The captain then noticed my daughter was making a humming sound (she does when in a noisy environment) and demanded she be quiet. As she didn't comply immediately, he exclaimed “NO WAY SHE CAN BE ON MY BOAT!”. As it was apparent the captain just wanted to turn us away, I asked for a refund. The captain didn’t seem to care and asked us to call the owner. I called the owner immediately. The owner said he would call the captain. I was hoping the owner would remedy the situation and change the captain’s mind. However, 5 minutes passed and the boat left the dock. The owner called an hour later and agreed on the refund. In his explanation, we were turned away due to safety concerns as my daughter was autistic. From our interaction with the captain, this was not the case. We were turned away for the captain’s convenience.

What should have happened: We should be treated with respect as how we were treated in other tour companies in similar situations. For example, in the swim with the shark tour, our daughter couldn’t participate, the captain offered to watch her on the boat while my wife and I were in the water with the sharks. Another example was during a sightseeing tour, the captain was initially uncomfortable with an autistic child, she pulled us aside from other tourists and explained her concerns. After we explained our daughter’s conditions and capabilities, she was more comfortable and allowed us to be on board. The tour went smoothly and the captain later thanked us for bringing our child on the tour. There were other examples I would not elaborate here for how we were treated with respect and care. Well I use the coordinates that was provided and still wasn’t able to connect with the captain the communication between them and the customer is very poor and when you try to call someone for directions your un able to get in touch with someone it’s a scam because how do you not return someone’s hard earned money 200 dollars at that if your not able to ride the skis physically then they should refund your money but that isn’t the case I don’t know how they are allow to run a business like this

The captain is very rude if your thinking about jet skiing just do yourself a favor and save your money the Dennis guy doesn’t know how to speak to a paying customer and the refund policy is a scam yes the policy states if your late they will leave but if your not familiar with the area you will not find how to get there we left our hotel room an hour early to ensure we got there in time we arrived 30 minutes before the scheduled time and still ended up getting left because the coordinates provided are off depending on what search engine you type them in I use Apple Maps for location I was at a dock waiting for 2 hours to go out and ride no contact from the captain or the company you book with the number provided takes you to an automated service I called that number twice once when I arrived and again after I left still no response the communication is very poor they expect you to read a text message and hope that you can find it no sign stating you made it it’s very hard to find and the communication is little to none all they will do is text you coordinates and their policy which is very clear but if you are out there and can’t find it because your a tourist you will not be refund and you will be spoken to in a horrible manner Dennis is very rude I don’t recommend you spend your money at all so spend at your own risk warning

EDIT: if the captain tells he will refund you it’s a lie to get you to take down your bad review our date was booked may 17th it’s is now June 12th and we have yet to receive a refund so if you leave a bad review the guy will try to get you to take it down because all he care about is his stats on his review page I took this review down but kept the original in my notes just in case the captain pulled a fast one which he did so I’m putting it back up and won’t be taking it down and I will be reporting them to the BBB they will not continue to do paying customers the way...

Captain Matt was great. My wife and I had a fun time riding the Jet ski (tandem) and it's a perfect spot for it. I also tried Flyboarding for the first time ever and I don't surf/skateboard/snowboard or done any other sports involving a board. I had an absolute blast flyboarding. It's difficult and you will fall (great time for friends and/or partner to watch you wipeout) but I managed to get up and move around in 5-10 minutes. I even managed to do some dolphin dives which was an unreal experience and I totally recommend trying it. I wake boarded once before this and it is easier compared to wakeboarding I would say.
