Tantalus Drive is a beautiful, scenic road into the hills/mountains surrounding Honolulu. The lush vegetation is impressive, so I strongly encourage a drive during your stay. The view from the summit itself is not too stunning due to vegetation, but from the drive you can take many different trails that offer the possibility to do nice walks inside tropical sceneries. Parking can be a serious problem, so public transport was a good alternative...

A huge letdown. While the views going up the mountain offer short glimpses of scenery, the summit is surrounded in vegetation and offers minimal sightlines. Pu'u Ohia Trail maintenance is rough and there are ample opportunities to slip and trip. Telephone Road appears to be a "private" drive and is not accessible by vehicle. I recommend you find your scenic views elsewhere - probably "Tantalus Lookout - Puu Ualakaa...

It is a fun under-maintained hike that I shouldn’t have brought grandma on. Fortunately the children and I survived. I copied a review into the photos that sums this hike up nicely. The kids loved the bamboo forest but if it’s the sights you wanna see go to the Lookout cause you can’t see much...
