This was one of the sister schools of the school I attended to get my associates degree I applied for this school and Bellevue University. Even though SNHU only transferred 48 of my credits and Bellevue transferred all of my credits and I would only have to take core classes for my degree. But I said okay i have heard more about this school than Bellevue so I will just go here. Well I started classes and being a single mom I have to deal with sick kids, juggle life and when I started here it seems like so much starting happening at once. First off I had to do a verification of my self okay fine I did that and then as classes went on my son got sick and was done for a week and a half then I got sick and it seemed like it lasted a month and then my dad fell ill and he was going back and fourth to the hospital and he lives like 5 hours away so I was traveling a lot there. My parents do not have internet at there home anymore do to financial issues. So I couldn’t exactly do anything I called my advisor a couple to times to advise about my sickness and that I was not focused on class and they said you should try to complete it. Well long story short the class ended I think 6/30/19 which I was in Oklahoma and around that that I was selected for a 2ndary verification where I had to get some stuff signed and notarized I did not have the money because I was going back in fourth home and I was not focused on that. So my dad ended up going to the icu 7/02/19 and was in there for weeks and then he had to have all these major surgeries and etc. at this time I was not working because I was on leave because all that was going on. Then in the middle of July my dad passed away. We buried my father we I stayed home to help my mom get herself together and then I came home 08/01/2019 I eventually called the school because I was like I am ready to get back on track with my bachelors degree and do it for my dad. They reinstated the 2ndary confirmation I had already uploaded my drivers license and the other form in June when I was supposed to do it the first time. So knowing I don’t have barely any money and kids I chose to waste gas and money and get this form notarized and I mailed it in also started the dispute process for my balance. So I get a text the day before my deadline saying they received the notarized document so the next day in the afternoon the day of the deadline I get a message to review the verification and they had told me they denied it because lived in Texas and I still have a Oklahoma drivers license and I have til the end of the business day to get a Texas license and upload it. Mind you i do not like how a school is telling me I have to go spend 40 bucks and get a new license and I am at work and they don’t extend the deadline. They know I just started back to work and I literally don’t have 2 dollars to my name and and I have used my Oklahoma drivers license for everything with no issues and I even applied to a instate school no problems with my license and no issues. So all that time and money was for nothing. I am so angry and I had a manager call me and she was like unfortunately it’s nothing we can do you will not be able to get financial aid with us again you would have to pay out of pocket. And we do that to make sure we have good students and they are coming to school for the right reasons. I told her well ma’am there is had a lot going on in my life the last couple months and I and a great student I graduated with my associates in March with a 3.4 gpa and I even had surgery last year made it through still graduated. So I am definitely not going to school for the wrong reasons. I got so angry I hung up. I would not recommend this school they are not nice and not once did my advisor call and Check on me the whole time with missing class or anything. I would reach out to professors and the advisor. They do not care about you as a student and your life they only care about themselves. No one cares to help me. I beyond frustrated and disappointed that I chose them just because they were the most well...
Read moreI am attending SNHU for a B.A in Electrical Engineering. I will not be attending SNHU for a second semester. My single semester at this institution has been a complete disaster. I am attending SNHU with a military G.I Bill, I am a straight A student, and I was STILL treated like this.
Teachers are not required to have degrees in the subject that they teach. My 'Calculus professor's for the first 5 weeks of the semester was actually a physics teacher. He did such a horrible job teaching that he was fired just before mid terms. The next professor had to start teaching the subject matter from the beginning. The students were denied a refund for the class.
SNHU's scheduling is bizarre. The class 'blocks' are one hour and 15 minutes long. There is a brief wait between classes to get from one place to another. If a class needs to be longer than an hour, it takes up 2 class blocks. So, to get the same level of in-class time as lectures at other institutions, the class would have to meet 4x a week. Which, it does not, it meets twice a week, with one 'double block' for labs once a week.
SNHU does not offer ANY 4-credit courses. This includes courses like Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry. Lecture is 3 credits, and labs are 1. If you find that peculiar, then take another look at #2. Essentially, that means the class is truly not worth 4 credits, so why pay the same amount for an inferior education? OR the class is worth 4 credits, and it falls upon the students as individuals to make up for all the material that should have been covered in a lecture. In the latter case, students are screwed out of a credit hour. Personally, I had to take on 14 (FOURTEEN!) credits to be a full-time student because no classes were worth 4 credits.
SNHU is structured suspiciously like a for-profit college. SNHU has aired ads all across the nation to encourage people to attend their institution. An incredible amount of professors are adjuncts. This doesn't deserve it's own bullet, but I would also like to note how odd I find it that the on-campus SNHU shuttles all have Massachusetts licence plates.
Finding parking is impossible and there are ALWAYS parking police on patrol. There is not enough parking to cover all the people that need to park for classes. Furthermore, the parking lots are on the outskirts of campus, so sometimes it's a journey to get to the building where your class is. Getting to classes on time is a shot in the dark.
Their Electrical Engineering program is not accredited. An E-mail was sent out to all the students pursuing electrical engineering or computer science stating that the curriculum for these degrees would be different than we were first told because SNHU is trying to get the program accredited.
Trying to register for classes is a nightmare. The process is convoluted. Sometimes there are not enough spots open to cover everyone who needs to take it. For instance, (for the Spring 2020 semester) there are 4 sections of Physics I with 20 seats each, and there are only 3 sections of Physics I lab. Those are supposed to be taken concurrently.
The online Learning Management System (LMS) is terrible. SNHU currently uses Brightspace. It doesn't give options to see how you're doing compared to your peers, it doesn't have 'what-if' grade options. There is no coherency as to where assignments are posted and found between different classes.
If you're prior military and were in a field that required a lot of training, SNHU WILL NOT GIVE YOU CREDIT. I worked as an aviation standards calibrator. I calibrated, troubleshot, and repaired electrical/electronic/mechanical equipment. SNHU did not give me any credit and wanted to put me in an electrical fundamentals class. That is quite unnecessary. SNHU is only after your money. I had asked one of my professors why I wasn't given credit, and he told me to ask my advisor. I asked my advisor, and my advisor told me to ask the professor that I had asked already. When I told my advisor that I already did, he said that's too bad and...
I loved the admission directory that called me, she was so helpful and committed to making sure that she answered all my questions. I told her that I was interested in their Health Information Management Program (HIM) but before I settled on the school I wanted to make sure that I was making the right choice. I looked into 2 other universities near me and noticed that they were also both online and accredited by CAHIIM (The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management) which I did not see on SNHU's website for the program. I looked more into exactly what CAHIIM is, if its the only accreditation for HIM programs, and if its needed when it comes time to find a job/career. I didn't (I don't know who does) want to waste money nor time. I also noticed about these other universities programs stated that students are eligible to take the RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) exam, I looked into this as well. I found out that in this field you must be registered to be considered as a reputable person in the healthcare field and without this you may not be able to get a job. Passing the RHIA exam states that you know HIM and meet Healthcare standards. I noticed that even though SNHU is not accredited their curriculum principles is established by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Health Information Management education programs (CAHIIM). So, I call CAHIIM and ask if a university needs this type of accreditation in order for students that graduated with a BS in HIM to take the exam. She tells me that students can not take this exam coming from a school that is accredited. This makes me very sad because I love SNHU tuition and how much more affordable per credit hour it is compared to the 2 universities that I looked at. So, I call a second time to ask them about the post-bachelor completion certificate to become registered and see if this could be an option for me if I graduated from SNHU. CAHIIM rep tells me that this certificate is only an option for 4 schools and SNHU wasn't one of them. In summary, SNHU HIM program is not accredited by CAHIIM which is the ONLY accreditation in America according to CAHIIM for ALL HIM matters which means that students will not be able to take the RHIA exam in order for them to get a job/career after graduation. When employers look at someone that isn't registered it appears as though they do not know how to Nationally Manage Healthcare Information to Healthcare standards a rep tells me and she also mentions that it is very difficult for people to find a good and well paying job without being registered clients tell her. This program will be a waste of money and time sadly, I thought this university would be a good fit for me, but its not.
I hope this has helped people regarding SNHU and choosing a university. BTW, I ask a different admission directory why they are not accredited and he tells me that "becoming accredited we need to have students graduate from the program first and accreditation takes a year or two". All I have to say to that is, WOW, your not going to waste my...
