Cherokee Trail Of Tears Commemorative Park — Attraction in Hopkinsville

The park is alright, but the disc golf course is top notch. Course offeres both Longs and Shorts. I will say though from my experience in disc golf, the shorts here would be the longs for many other courses. Its has a rather difficult front 9, with a bit more forgiving back 9. Front 5 holes are a blend of open and wooded holes, with elements of both on each hole. Hole 6 - 9 flood from time to time but are more wooded. Really easy to lose a disc to the river along Hole 6 for RHBH/LHFH throwers. Back 9 is more like park golf, but in a former neighborhood. Holes 13, 15, and 16 play as "islands". Although a beginner can play this course, I'd recommend sticking to the back 9 for true beginners. As for the rest of the park, it does host an annual Pow-Wow, is home to a small muesum, and vistor center. Overall the park is in decent shape, but the walking trail needs repairs and litter control needs to be handled better and honestly the only issues I have with this park. Both of these issues which are primarly caused by flooding, which I have no clue how that could or even should be handled. I'm playing disc golf on the course all the time and do enjoy...

Drove almost 3 hours to visit this place. As soon as we entered the museum building, the energy within was so powerful that I could feel it flowing throughout my entire body. The museum courier was very pleasant and knowledgeable. A very spiritual, heartwarming, yet solemn and sad place to visit. We were told that we could set up a grill for a picnic lunch but decided not to due to there not being a safe place to dispose of the charcoal embers and the arrival of the Cicadas (the noise was deafening. Also, we were really disappointed in the state of disrepair that a National Park was in due to lack of funding from the government! Shame on our government for allowing such a sacred place to simply deteriorate and once again disrespect the native...

I've only been to the park on sunny days with few other people there and when the visitor center is closed; it's very attractive and the monument area is concise. It's easy to walk around and view the various monuments and tributes, and pleasant to sit in the shade and reflect on them. The site of the encampment is located across a small walking bridge from the parking lot and provides a good sized area to walk and think. As I come from outside the area, the park was a revelation to me; I did not expect it and was impressed that this area was set aside to commemorate and document this tragic period of history. I found it inspirational to see that this history was not being dismissed...
