I decided to go at 8am on Monday June, 3. I hoped that since I got there early I wouldn’t come across all the sketchy characters mentioned in almost every review of this park. I drove down the long driveway and parked. I was less than a 1/4 mile down the trails when an obese 50 year old man approached me asking for “favors” and other things that I obviously can’t repeat on this app. I walked back to my car and started backing out to drive towards the exit and that’s when 2 men started walking to my vehicle (one not wearing anything below the waist) and signaled for me to roll down my windows. I accelerated past them and one chucked a tiny rock at my car. At which point I called the police to speak to an officer to report it. In describing the incident to him I could tell he was thinking “not this again” and was definitely tired of everything going on there. He said to stay out and never come back. Just like a separate review said, if you have to go there make sure you bring a firearm. I understand the historic nature of the park but they should just close it for good at this point. DONT GO HERE WITHOUT...
Read moreI just left the park. I was interested in the scene for further photography location. Soon after entering the park I got a bad feeling. I was half way in and I ran into few people just in the strangest places. Not on a park bench but almost hiding off the pathway. As I was trying to find my way out a couple guys I passed was now following me. Even when I took the wrong turn trying to find the parking lot they were still following me. Finally once I was headed to the parking lot another guy was approaching in a hoodie and Covid mask pulled something from his pocket and hide it behind his back. I pretended to call out to friend to distract him as we walked pass one another. I turned to see what he was doing and he was just standing there (black hoodie black civic mask) I walked further and looked back again he was hiding behind a tree watching me. Stay...
Read moreFirst, I am not a birder, so I can't say what the value/benefit of the bird blinds found through out the park would be... I mostly use the park to walk my dogs. The Good: Simple loop (20 to 30 minutes?) with multiple short off-shoot paths (that usually lead to bird blinds). Big beautiful turn-of-the-century Texas live oaks found near the trail. Lots of wetlands and a raised boardwalk/trail. Its not crowded, and we often find ourselves to be the only ones in the park. The not so Good: -Sketchy people: Probably because no one uses the park, we often find sketchy people/cars parked in the parking lot who often leave when we park there. -Lack of maintenance:The trail is an old concrete trail that needs maintenance. -Mosquitoes: Lots of standing water (part of the year)....
