Soldier Memorial Park — Attraction in Howell Township

Nice place for boys and girls to play some ball. The place holds pretty high level tournaments and my only complaint is that set up behind home plate is very unusual. The backstop is very large and actually has a hill where the ball will travel down if it passes the catcher which doesn't give the pitcher or a catcher the opportunity to get the runners advancing from third base. There's basically no chance with the design of the backstop. This could be rectified very easily without major Construction. They could put up some sort of a barrier to shorten the distance before the ball goes rolling down the hill. Which would even up the chances for both teams. My only other complaint is that the umpires are very familiar with the local teams and show a little bit of bias because they're friendly with the families. Also I noticed that one of the umpires was not watching the game he was umpiring he was looking over at another game on another field, which distracted him and he did not see the full play follow through so the calls were not made correctly. Also on a previous tournament we played down there I noticed one of the umpires after the game were hugging and kissing a few of the local team's parents which is fine as long as you're not showing any type of favoritism. We have visiting games at our Little League field and our home umpires are very fair. They're not always very good but they're equally bad for both teams not showing any type of nepotism or favoritism. I am not sure who oversees the fields and the hiring of umpires, but I know that they do use the same group of umpires in every tournament we have played at...

This place was great. Very very very clean there was a person on the spot that empty out the garbages every 20 to 30 minutes. The only reason why I gave it a 4 star not a 5 is because they put all the poorer parties on one side of the field. And you literally had to walk probably 600' . Other than that this place is great it's great nice enjoyable I was therefore my daughter's travel softball. So I bring up the bathrooms because, when the girls have to go they can't really go they have to hold it because it's all the way on the other side of the park. So a lot of times these girls are holding it in through the entire game. This might not have an effect on anybody that's just going to the park spending the day. Place is clean they also have a stand to eat. very fresh they make food to order the ladies there were very very pleasant. I love this park. It's really clean. It's huge. You can have events, festivals, carnivals practices, soccer, basketball, etc. It's a really good part. Really big one like I said and we went there for the 4th of July week and they had an event there with some food trucks and some beer and wine stands and they had a firework show and it was really good. Probably one of the best firework shows around Monmouth county...
