The entire experience from start to finish absolutely UNDERWHELMING. I honestly can not recall experiencing buyers remorse of this magnitude.
At first glance, coming in, the place looks a little shabby. The company has NOT decided to use the ample amount of land to actually benefit the animals. The animals are each in individual pins no bigger than the average bedroom. There's no toys or anything in the pins to keep them stimulated. Not ANY of the cages allowed for people to come in an interact with the animals. High fences, that allowed limited interaction. Meaning the animals might come over to you if you show food, and be fed from behind the gate. These are not really animals for petting though. they didn't have much interest in anything but being fed. none seemed all that friendly or curious to interact. either. most of the pins have warnings up advising that the animals might bite or spit lol. I guess they've raised the fences to prevent too much interaction because of it. if I wanted to stay back & look through a wall at animals I would have gone 2the Houston Zoo.
Large out of date wooden Playground available. Unused pool. could have been used to give the llama some room.
"petting zoo" experience thumbs down.
Next, the little train. The guy driving said absolutely nothing before, during or after the ride lol. He didn't give any trivia, he didn't talk about the animals. There was nothing. A VERY short trip around all the land and the animals in their small pins, Maybe a 2 minute trip?? At Bayou Wildlife Zoo, the tractor ride was over half an hour, the driver very friendly, knowledgeable, we made several stops for him to tell us what animal was what AND, the animals were able to freely roam over a wide space of land. And they were Happy to come on over to us for petting and scratchies and to be fed lol. Full on, access to the animals, but the wide open space allowed for the ANIMALS to chose. Luckily, though there was clearly food on the ground and water available and many animals in their fields there, they still seemed very friendly and eager to be played with and fed. That was at Bayou wildlife Zoo. I was CERTAIN that the train here would be a similar experience. But nope. There was no stopping, no talking, animals could not approach the train, they were locked in pins, and there was no option to feed the animals from the train ride. Really don't get the point. Thumbs down for the train ride.
Next, the pony ride. 3 horses available, 1 was a miniature horse. my kid was a little squeamish so he naturally pointed to the miniature horse to ride. we waited our turn with the other little kids and then finally when we got to the front of the line, the woman said he could not ride the miniature horse because he was too big. I was shocked by that. my skinny mini kid is all of 40lbs.soaking wet & I'd just waited in line watching others , clearly heavier than him ride the same horse. my kid just turned 6,what in the world is a little kid?? I'd asked what the weight limit was. ( as I'm sure if he doesn't pass it, none of the line before or after him did) . she says she didn't have a weight limit, they just make sure to only let the babies ride the smaller horse. final question was "so if a 2year old comes to ride and she's 50lbs and my 6 year old wants to ride and he's 40lbs 2yo can ride and my 6 can not?" she said yes lol.
the whole thing was just ridiculous. to wait in line that whole time and see all these kids my kids size or larger get right on, and then only mine prevented, was very irritating. especially considering this seems to be the only time in this weird "petting zoo" where you're finally allowed to come in and around an animal. so pony ride, thumbs down.
I'm just super disappointed that I'd spent the $40 or the time,on this place. sometimes I'm too eager to try new places. I really wish I would have just returned again to Bayou Wildlife or the Houston Interactive Aquarium or...
Read moreThese animals are kept in terrible conditions. The rabbits in particular is single handedly the worst care I have seen. Not only is the hutch so small (one even housing 3 rabbits in one) there is no hay, no cusion on the grates, and they are watered with water bottles. If you know anything about rabbits, you would know they like to jump and binky when happy. All these rabbits did was lay down overheating and panting. They couldn’t even walk around because the grates are metal! Probably dangerously hot. Rabbits dont have paw pads, just their foot. When put on grates, they can get painful sores. Thankfully i didnt see any, but anyone could see how unhappy these rabbits are. They need some kind of fabric or bedding on too of the grates. There was no hay what so ever, hay is 70% of a rabbits diet. But instead, these rabbits were fed 100% pellets. Way too many pellets. Lastly, they were given water bottles, rabbits should only drink out of bowls. These rabbits were severely dehydrated and every rabbit owner should know that rabbits get little to no water from the bottles. And the large enclosure for the rabbits was no better. The tiniest hay container was all the 2-3 rabbits had. They were all huddled in the one hide in the enclosure. I could tell they were heavily stressed. Not to mention all the small children invading their enclosure and scaring them trying to pet them. Rabbits are incredibly timid when not socialized. Children especially should not handle rabbits. They could get heart attacks and literally die. The rabbits should not be allowed for people to go into their cages, especially kids who go to reach for them. Rabbits are prey animals. Its a shock none of them were dead!
The pig enclosure has its flaws too. Not only are the pigs so obese that their bellies drag along the ground, they can barely even drink what little water they are given because its so narrow. The pig had food thrown all over its face, going into the poor things face folds, it barely was able to get up and get water.
The goats looked so hot, but they seemed better than most.
This parks animals is sad, and depressing and needs to be fixed. The everyday person may not see anything wrong, but as a rabbit lover and animal enthusiast, i am severely disappointed in this parks care of animals and will not be coming...
Read morethis was my first time here. new to the houston area with a toddler. i saw that this place had a petting zoo after following them on fb i finally decided to bring my daughter. when we first got there, there was a long line with 2 cashiers. to make a long story short we went to see the horses first which are closest to the front. kids were feeding them and they ponies. my daughter was excited to feed the ponies. but when she got to the horse the horse bit her. i went to the front to ask for bandages. i suggested they put a sign on the fence to prevent it from happening again. they got very defensive saying there is a sign when you come in and that the cashier tells you about it when you buy the tickets. i asked could they show me the sign it was by register one. i checkout out at register 2. i was not verbally told not to feed the horses. you can not assume everyone grew up in the country on a barn. i went back to the horse area there are no signs saying don’t feed them. but there is a liability sign of course. the rabbit cage has a sign though 😒. after the incident my daughter was scared to feed the animals again of course i was ready to go but of course the nonchalantence and unsympathetic teenage cashiers could care less. i drove a hr to get here and honestly it wasn’t worth what they are charging. the only reason i wouldn’t recommend this place is because of the customer service and lack of signs i just hope it does not...
