If you’re looking for a breathtaking drive and a stunning slice of Idaho beauty, Lucky Peak State Park is a must-see. We didn’t stay for the day, but even just driving up along the Boise River Scenic Byway was worth it—the views are absolutely incredible.
Our first stop was Sandy Point, nestled right at the base of Lucky Peak Dam. It’s a wide, sandy beach with calm water and a peaceful atmosphere—perfect for swimming, picnicking, or paddleboarding. Even from a distance, it’s clear this is a family-friendly destination with large shaded grassy areas and plenty of space to relax.
Farther up the road, the Lucky Peak Reservoir opens up into expansive, sparkling water surrounded by rolling hills. We saw people kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, and enjoying the calm summer weather. There are picnic shelters, well-kept restrooms, and even lookout points where you can pull over to take in the spectacular views. The peacefulness of the area combined with the dramatic mountain backdrop creates a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting.
Whether you spend the day or just take in the views like we did, this is a 5-star gem that showcases the natural beauty Boise has to offer. Highly recommend it as a scenic drive or a relaxing outdoor destination...
