If you’re looking for a breathtaking drive and a stunning slice of Idaho beauty, Lucky Peak State Park is a must-see. We didn’t stay for the day, but even just driving up along the Boise River Scenic Byway was worth it—the views are absolutely incredible. Our first stop was Sandy Point, nestled right at the base of Lucky Peak Dam. It’s a wide, sandy beach with calm water and a peaceful atmosphere—perfect for swimming, picnicking, or paddleboarding. Even from a distance, it’s clear this is a family-friendly destination with large shaded grassy areas and plenty of space to relax. Farther up the road, the Lucky Peak Reservoir opens up into expansive, sparkling water surrounded by rolling hills. We saw people kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, and enjoying the calm summer weather. There are picnic shelters, well-kept restrooms, and even lookout points where you can pull over to take in the spectacular views. The peacefulness of the area combined with the dramatic mountain backdrop creates a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting. Whether you spend the day or just take in the views like we did, this is a 5-star gem that showcases the natural beauty Boise has to offer. Highly recommend it as a scenic drive or a relaxing outdoor destination for all ages.

I am lucky to only live 5 miles from Sandy Point Beach! It is a lovely part of Lucky Peak State Park to get together with your family and/or friends, bbq a meal, and paddle board on calm water. There are nice trees for shade in the grassy areas. Warm sand for the beach experience. Very family friendly. Oh, and if you don’t want anyone to contact you while you are out enjoying yourself, no problem as you probably won’t have cell service. (I really do consider that a bonus!)

We go EVERY Wednesday! "Water Wednesday!" Fun for the whole family! Great play area for the 5 year old, lots of picnic tables and charcoal bbqs available. Paddleboard and Kayak rentals at a very reasonable price for me and the 12 year old! (Full day paddle board 12pm-8pm for $50 or $20 for an hour and $5 each additional hour. Kayaks: $30 an hour for a double/$10 each additional and $20 first hour for a single.) Snow cones and snacks available. Trails to take our RC cars out on for the husband! (Includes a science lesson with to-scale planet distances if you're feeling like some learning on your walk) Place to blow up our larger water toys for a few quarters! Also... NO cell service (which is amazing for our kids! They can't be on their devices etc.) It's a great fun place, clean for what it is, friendly staff, ...

Lucky Peak State Park Sandy Point Unit is a 34 acre site at the base of the dam. It is adjacent to the Discovery Park. There is "mushroom fountain" in the middle of the eastern tip of the water. The area around the fountain is surprisingly shallow and accessible for anyone looking for a fun way to soak.

It is only 15 minutes away from Boise. The scenery here is really beautiful. This park is the perfect place for swimming, soaking, paddle boarding, nature viewing and picnicking. There are shelters, picnic tables, grills and clean restroom on the spot. You can also play volleyball and Disk golf here. No pets are allowed here.

I used to go there with my friends for picnic. The calm beautiful scenery from this unit is just mesmerizing. If you are in Boise, It is a must...
