This is truly a fantastic place of incredible ecological value. Substantial plant and animal biodiversity. Great sceneries. However, the main trail is open to bikers who often do not respect the preserve -- they play loud music as if this were a park! This must stop. There are many parks in this area--go there. Sound pollution is real, especially in nature preserves -- leave your music at the gate, people. Let us listen to the birds! Or use headphones, they were...

Large nature preserve with well maintained paths. Feels like you are out in the country vs. the middle of suburbia. Great for experiencing local wildlife including sandhill cranes. Stop by the Elawa Farms buildings near the entrance to visit the Lake Forest Wildlife Center - many different reptiles inside and rescued predators outside. Update - the Wildlife Center is closing down. The animals are being moved to other...

Ok place. I’m sure I would’ve liked it more sure my dogs, but they weren’t allowed on many of the paths- which I understand because it was to protect uncommon habitats and nesting birds- consequently we were limited to a bike path. Pretty place with a really interesting variety of environments. The one thing I have to mention is I came home with so many ticks on my dogs and found one of my leg the next day...

Beautiful flat path, brought the dogs, expecting to do a loop but dogs aren't allowed on the connecting 'grass trail' because of groundnesting birds, understandably. Before we got on the gravel trail in the open space we took a trail marked 'New Trail' , through the trees. Muddy since it's Spring but we didn't care. Heard birds singing, enjoyed the sunshine and the walk around the little pond. Great place 👍

This is a wonderful place to enjoy the flora and fauna of Norther Illinois. The scenic, 4-mile crushed gravel trail is very well kept and great for running. It winds through the preserve's lovely mix of tall grass savanna, woodlands, marshes and prairies, and over the North Branch of the Chicago River.
