Lots of different options here. There is a playground with tons of green space for picnics and pavilions for parties. There are trails as well that are some of the best in the StL immediate area. The best part is the creek that runs through the southern side of the area. Most of it is only inches deep and the current is very slow. Great for little kids.

On a good, hot day, the creek is going to get very crowded but still highly recommend it. We came on a Sunday morning, hit the creek about 10 and the crowd was light. By 11, it was getting pretty packed. So get there early if you want to find a good spot and have some peace. Even loaded with people it's still pretty chill, at least when...

Mastodon State Historic Site Playground is a fantastic place for families. The playground is always clean and well-maintained, with new equipment. There's plenty of green space for picnics and pavilions for parties. The area also boasts some of the best trails in the St. Louis area. A highlight is the shallow, slow-moving creek, perfect for young children to enjoy. Parents can relax on the benches provided, and bathrooms are conveniently located nearby. Would you like to explore other aspects of the park, such as the trails or...

Loved this place since a kid only sad thing is people breaking rocks on the trails for gets. There not on the trails and ypu make it unsafe for the runners and fast people. Noticed people throw down cigarettes its fall we love the park don't burn it down tear it up or ruin our ability to get to come here and wonder without ropes and guides. Respect the park Trump took away the staff for our enjoyment places take your trash back with you or use a can. This place won't stay nice we keep abusing the right to be there. Thanks love an...

Really nice Pavillion. I told my cub scouts to each look for 5 pieces of trash while we were in the creek to help our environment. We only found 3 tiny pieces from the whole group! Very clean! Clean stream, restrooms, Pavillion & pathways. It was even right after a storm & there was a park last there picking up the small branches from the storm. I didn't spend much time @ the playground but my kids loved it! Also very cool drinking fountain/ bottle filler/ dog fountain/ pump for washing feet area.
