It's a well maintained park and while I do recommend visiting it, there are ways this park could be improved. Both by the park operators and if you're planning on coming here.

My family was in town for a brief reunion. We came to the park with home hopes of seeing a bald eagle or two. After leaving the visitor center, we crossed the parking lot and started on the trail and walked for about 3 miles to the "blind observatory." It took an hour to get there and unfortunately didn't see any eagles during the 20 minutes we sat there.

Here are some suggestions:

Visitors: ask the rangers at the visited 8 center if there have been any sightings today or in the past 24 hours. Also, upon returning to your car, stop in the visitor center and let the rangers know if you did or didn't see any.

Rangers: the blind observatory has a limited view of the area and it would be great if you would clear out some of the trees and bushes that obstructs the view. Otherwise the current name is quite fitting. Also, freely let the visitors know if there have been any eagle sightings and where the best areas are to possibly see them. Maybe a digital display board and a website that says where and how recently they were last seen. That'll save you from having to repeatedly say it and potential visitors can either save themselves a trip or know where exactly they'll have the best chance of seeing the eagles.

If you're reading this, make sure you note the date and the time of year this and all other reviews are being posted. It's likely that the eagles are not as active at different parts of the year.

If you're coming to the park to simply enjoy the park, then you've chosen a great...

I have visited the Mason Neck State Park many times, the most I like among state parks. This location is a great place for family camping. Not only for family, but also good for elderly people. The location is not far from Woodbridge, about 50 min drive down to the South. It has camping ground next to the Potomac River. If you like to 👣 . 👍 On the way back home, there are local Farmer's markets, and it is good to get very fresh vegetables and fruits. Parking $5.00 / day You can get the parking permit, which is the cheapest parking fee for all VA state parks. I got the parking pass after I had visited, which was a great decision to get a parking pass because every time, I needed to put $5 bill in the envelope.

There are 3 benefits of Walking

You can make your body healthy Reduce your stress You can lose your weight

I had lost 10 pounds Lol

For children

walking in the forest is said to be emotionally good for children. These days Chandran spend a lot of time for using computers (game) and cell phones. In my opinion, they should do some activities. Walking or Hiking with parents in the forests could be a good memory for your children. I recommend you to visit this park at least once if you have not been there. I bat you...

Was very ready to have a fun gathering here with family and friends, but unfortunately, that was not the case. During our time there, we were approached with multiple complaints by the park ranger on site. Not only were the complaints very specific, but the delivery of them was very rude and unprofessional, as if we were being given orders. We were approached regarding activities that we have been doing since we started our annual picnics back in 2021 (i.e. playing soccer on the field next to the playground). One specific complaint that baffled me was that we were unable to use a piñata due to the paper decorations. We tried to comprise with management, since this was an activity the children loved, asking if using a cardboard box to minimize potential litter would be possible, and they refused. After asking why, they said that the children would eat the candy and litter. We clarified with them that this meant no one was allowed candy in the park, since this seemed to be a bit absurd, and they confirmed that this is what they meant. I tried explaining to them that we all came from scouting families, with my own son being an Eagle Scout, but I was completely disregarded. Very unhappy with the service I received. Will not...

I wasn’t always a fan of spring, but after living in Virginia for so long I’ve come to realize that every season has its own beauty here! With the longer days and warmer weather comes trees budding, flowers blooming, and waterfalls flowing. It’s a refreshing and beautiful time to get outside! We got a few great spring hikes in already the last few weekends, and I can’t wait for more! Here are a few of my favorite VA spring hikes in case you need some inspo to get back out there too. ⚠️Remember to practice responsible recreation when exploring outdoors! It’s your to all of us to keep this beautiful trails in tiptop shape so we can enjoy them for years to come! Never trample or pick wildflowers, take all trash with you, and keep to established trails as much as possible! 👉🏼Which one of these will you do next? What others would you add?? 📌Save these Virginia hikes for your spring list! 1. Bluebell Trail at Shenandoah River State Park (entrance fee) 2. Rose River to Story of the Forest Loop (SNP- entrance fee) 3. Old Rag Mountain (SNP- entrance fee) 4. Devils Bathtub- Fort Blackmore, VA 5. Wilburn Ridge/Mount Rogers- Grayson Highlands State Park 6. Apple Orchard Falls- Buchanan, VA 7. Humpback Rocks- Lyndhurst, VA 8. Rapidan Camp/ Hazeltop Mountain (SNP- entrance fee) 9. Crabtree Falls- Tyro, VA 10. Mollys Knob- Hungry Mother State Park (entrance fee) 11. Buzzard Rock- Fort Valley, VA 12. Bald Cypress Trail- First Landing State Park (entrance fee) 13. Bayview Trail- Mason Neck State Park (entrance fee) *I didn’t include stats or difficulty level because many of these trails have multiple route options. I recommend searching them on All Trails to find a route that works for you! Or I’m happy to answer any questions you have. Happy hiking! Be prepared and stay safe out there.❤️
