【New Water Guide】DMV Boating Destination: Mason Neck 🚣♂️🌊
0️⃣ Bay Area: Belmont Bay, located in the lower Occoquan River, near its confluence with the Potomac River. 1️⃣ Parking: Mason Neck State Park – plenty of parking spaces available. 2️⃣ Suitable Activities: Kayaking, Paddle Boarding, Fishing, Hiking, Picnicking 🛶🎣🥾🧺 3️⃣ Fees: Park entry is 3 per vehicle. Boat launch fee is 10 per trailer. Mason Neck Park is not too crowded and features large picnic areas near the bay, shaded by woods – perfect for weekend outings or small gatherings. I’d call this park a hidden gem in Southern Northern Virginia! 💎 4️⃣ Restrooms: Standard restrooms available at the visitor center and picnic areas. 5️⃣ Launch Point: Mason Neck State Park Cartop Boat Launch, located between the visitor center and picnic area. The launch area is a bit narrow – suitable for unloading boats but not for parking. Boat rentals are also available. 6️⃣ Recommended Kayak Route: The water near the launch is clear with a soft sandy bottom – great for wading! The bay is wide open – paddle toward Sandy Point at the river confluence where waves get stronger. Experienced paddlers will enjoy the challenge 🏄, but beginners should be cautious and keep the bow pointed into the waves. Then head north to see the private Corad Island (no landing allowed). Loop around the island and return to the launch. 7️⃣ Boat Rentals: Available ✅ 8️⃣ Difficulty: Moderate 🟡 9️⃣ Rating: 9/10 🌟 🔟 If you're in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington DC, and love water activities, hiking, camping, or making new friends – feel free to DM me!
