Loved the pioneer village!

On our family road trip, we decided to stop at Fowler Park for a picnic. Not being from the area, we had no idea that there was an old pioneer village on the property with some original buildings from the area and some replicated. What a treat!

There were so many fun cabins within the village! Gristmill, Fur Cabin, Carpenter Shop, Church, 1840’s School, Blacksmith Shop, Trading Post and lots of homes between! None of them were open when we were there, but we were able to peer through the windows and visualize what life was like during those times.

The Grist Mill was very cool with a working water wheel. If you looked inside, you could see the mechanisms at work. The church had the pews lined up for Sunday mass wow the 1840s School house had their dunce caps perched on the stools ready for anybody who misbehaved.

I just love the rustic design of this village. It makes for some amazing photography shots! Beautiful lake!

A family could definitely survive in this village back in the day. Everything was right here around you. It was a fun day getting a chance to step back in time.

Would highly recommend!

Hours are 7am-7pm everyday.

Notes: Public restroom, dogs allowed, picnic tables.

Public park with a playground, picnic areas, fishing, trails, covered bridge and...

This place has the worst customer service ever. Been on the road for 4500 miles and have nothing but a great experience till this place. We called ahead to ask if we arrived after 11pm if we could still get a spot and was told on the phone we could. If the care taker wasn't at the gate we were to call. We arrived at 11:15pm as planned and we were greated by the gate keeper. He knew we were coming. He contacted someone on a radio who told him we weren't allowed in. We called and talked to another person telling us no entry after 10pm. Even though we called and made plans. So after 40 minutes of arguing we still weren't allowed in. Great people to kick a family of 3 to a truck stop. At least the truck stop took us in with no problems and we had a great night sleep. Will never waste our time in our travels to come here again we will just stay at the truck stop. This is the first bad review on our trip of 6000 miles. Even had a Mexican farmer allow us to camp at his farm when we took a wrong course of roads and needed a place to stay for the night in Nebraska. Next time they should explain to a 5 year old why we weren't allowed in and have to sleep at a truck stop. Nothing like making fellow Americans...

The one star rating I gave this campground is simply for the pretty water at the campsite. Maybe I’ll give a 2 star because the bathroom was clean and the maintenance fella was so nice!!! But what trumps all..... Campground host not friendly at all. Worst experience I have ever had at a campground. As a Christian women....hearing him say the word “Shi**y” twice to my face in an unprofessional matter is not what belongs in a family campground. One may ask why he would say this..because we parked to the side of a road for 45 seconds to make sure our children were okay at the “beach”...no one was coming or going either way.

He also drives around a mustang occasionally revving up his engine...I asked why..and he simply told me “Horsepower”. 😂😂😎

I will continue my camping at state parks. Terre Haute City Parks....I would highly recommend you get a handle on your campground hosts. Quit having these worthless humans representing your campgrounds...

I had the opportunity to take my adult students (18-22 year olds) with special needs to see a glimpse of Pioneer Days. For many, born in the 2003-2006 range, trying to conceptualize anything so primitive as the 1800s was unimaginable. One of my students even as me, "What was it like back then?" in a way that indicated he thought I had FIRSTHAND knowledge!! I know I'm old now, but come on! Did he really wonder if I was at, near, or OVER 200 years old? Wow! (...and pretty funny, really)! The participants in this Pioneer event were setting up tents, cleaning out cobwebs, making repairs, stacking firewood, and preparing for the two-day event starting the next morning. Of course, they were not yet dressed in attire to match the era, but it was a fun experience for my students all the same.

There was a bunch of rock on one of the walkways that I thought was dangerous tall people out there walking people on bicycles people walking pets I thought those rocks on that walkway was kind of dangerous, noticed a bunch of trash up in the mill where it comes off the lake and it's been there for weeks and weeks. Other than that it wasn't too bad some of the parking lots look like they need the sticks and trash cleaned off of them, but it's a Vigo County Park what do you expect!
