I've lived around this "park" for 35 years and before it was considered a park it was an illegal dumping ground and they found 2500 square yards of buried, powered asbestos back there. When they were digging around and found the broken open bags of asbestos they didn't know what it was so they trucked it out on open gigantic dump trucks and the stuff blew all over our yards, houses, cars and us!!! That was at least 21 years ago and damage from asbestos takes at least 30 years to develop so who knows who will eventually get sick from it. We suffered greatly from the dozens and dozens of trucks roaring in and out of that mess back there. And a lot of the asbestos is still buried back there right under the parking lot. I think they sealed the stuff with clay or something but who knows if it is leeching out into the water. So I would not eat anything caught back there. Also I've been walking back there myself and the sounds from the interstate are really overwhelming when the wind is...

The interstate makes it loud of course, but the juxtaposition of the flow of cars next to this working wetland is interesting, and the habitat is used so I'm glad someone did this.
Could use some TLC with garbage pickup and such, I'm sure it's hard being by the interstate, and it's also winter so there's no hiding anything with foliage. I liked the seating and how some of the paths led down into the wetlands more. Very cute park though! This park won't be a quiet nature hike necessarily, but it offers its own unique experience, and the...
Read moreI've already posted a bunch of pictures of this park so no more right now ;) This is one of my favorite parks in Indy. Aside from Eagle Creek, it has a great variety of bird species. It is perfect for running because it has a fine gravel path that's 2.5 K all the way around, so 2 laps makes about 3 miles. I've seen several community volunteers tending to it frequently. And It was just given a 1st place national award for multi neighborhood restoration project. Only negative is the roaring of the interstate. I'm hoping when the newly planted trees grow up, it will deaden some...
