I've played the Terra Lago North course once and the Terra Lago South course twice. They're both must play courses in Coachella Valley. They are both pretty similar. They start off playing though the Indio Hills. You'll have panoramic views of the valley with shots going up and down hillsides. Warning: the hazards will eat up your score quickly...you'll quite literally be in the desert with lay shot. You'll also have to deal with monstrous bunkers. The course has let some of them revert back to nature, with grass inside. It's a more natural experience in the hills. Some of the holes have the nasty aqueduct running alongside it making a unique and challenging hazard. There are no easy holes on this course, it will challenge you at all levels. It is not Palm Springs style resort golf: that's what's so fun about it. My poor dad is exhausted for like two days after playing this course due to the deep bunkers you'll have to climb in and out of. There is also ample water hazards on both courses. The greens are tough, but in great shape. The North Course finishes a little more resort style in front of the clubhouse around a lake. The South while I love it because it's a little cheaper and crazy hard, finishes with non spectacular holes. The clubhouse has nice views, the costs of both courses are very affordable. There are good practice facilities. I struggle to shoot under 100 on this course because it is so easy to rack up a double par on any hole due to the hazards....
Read moreThe North course at Hovnanians 4 SeasonsTerra Lago, at Indio is both very scenic but also quite challenging. The yardage from the back tees is over 7044 yds so we chose the regular set which is a mere 5838. Don't let that much smaller number fool you as the course will still defy your attempts at par. The course is cut out of the desert so there is a great deal of sand both in the rough and the pot bunkers. Bottom line is You get to experience two types of sand on this North course. The layout is kind of set up as a "target golf" which rewards good shots and Yes it does severly "punish" poor choices. Both the fairways and the greens seem to be a bit hard so the "good news" is you do get a lot of roll-out. The long ball bombers are going to love the extra distance. Almost too much roll from the greens as I had several great shots land on the green only to roll off the back. A playing partner had a low trajectory shot land 30 yds short of the green yet it rolled all the way through and off the back. Several holes, especially #18, appear intimidating because of both the water on the left and pot bunkers on the right that need to be avoided. Play a bit left here, but not too far left :)). Local course knowledge or having played this layout previously will easily subtract 5 strokes from your scores. The pro shop and bar/restaurant are enjoyable and staffed by a group friendly folks. All in all a good experience and a beneficial afternoon spent outdoors with...
Read moreWe reserved a tee time for Friday 3/13 through a 3rd party concierge service. We decided to change our tee time to Saturday 3/14 after the forecast called for rain on Friday. The golf check in staff in the clubhouse specifically, Brian H. was extremely rude. He accused us of lying about booking through a 3rd party vendor and refused to try to find our reservation. We ended up paying for the round a second time. He acted as if he was annoyed that we weren’t one of his regular customers. Neither he or the other staff member mentioned anything about the poor condition of the course or offered any discount, but were happy to collect the full price fees for a course which was well below our expectations. There was standing water and mud on more than half of the holes, pumps and hoses in the middle of fairways, flooded cart paths like you were crossing a river. In addition, they overbooked to the point where we had to wait on every tee box and every second shot on every hole. We passed the Marshall 2 or 3 times. He was worthless and made no attempts to speed up play. In my opinion, knowing the condition of the course management should have limited the number of tee times and provided a discount. The gentlemen who took our bags were polite and personable. The most enjoyable experience was the clubhouse restaurant/bar. Spectacular views, good food, and reasonably priced drinks. Our waitress was very polite...
