The bridge was cool but trying to take photos were hard with people ignoring personal space. There is a real nice large park and this is all wheelchair accessible on the other side of the bridge there is a foot path to lake superior beach. Despite the parking lot full of vehicles the bridge and park were relatively empty. But you always seem to have those few folks that don't care about personal space. Grrr. A huge plus if you like waterfalls! Just before you get to the bridge (road dead ends there) there are lots of waterfall senic areas with parking all on the right side of the road and a camping park on the left. On the way there, there's the black River lodge, and a bar/restaurant past that. Along the rivers edge there are a few steps to a wide wooden sidewalk/dock with a picnic table on it and it goes the length of the park. This would be a beautiful serene place for a picnic or just a place to read or write. Billboard sign says park golden passes accepted? No one was around checking passes sooo....? *note there zero road signs or directions so if hour car navigation is like mine..lol if you get to the black river road with a large park on the left your on the right road keep going for like 15 minutes give or take. That road curves to the left, keep going and eventually you'll start seeing signs about waterfalls, keep going as this road literally dead ends in the parking lot. P.s. as usual watch out for deer crossing the road. (We didn't stop at any waterfalls for medical reasons but I think it would be a full fun day...
Read moreThe Black River Harbor Pavilion is a beautiful place, especially in the spring and summer. Before you get to the shore of Lake Superior there is a wide open field and picnic area that is a good place to stop a have a picnic for lunch; there are also a couple picnic tables on the docks on the shore of the river. One of the main attractions in the harbor is the bridge over the river leading to several hiking trails. The surrounding landscape is beautiful and hilly, covered in dense forests. It's not the most spectacular place I've been to in the Northwoods, but the Black River Harbor Pavillion is no let-down either. Very...
