I was coming from Utuado and heading over to Aguadilla and found this so we had to make a quick stop to take pictures here. There is no real parking spots so be careful, yet off to the side that leads into this area, there's a small shop that sells souvenirs. Next to that you have a few parking spots for a temporary stop. This is on a busy highway so again be careful. There's also a small cave next to this and they sell fried fritters but on my two stops, there hasn't been anyone there. Some people think this carving was made by the Taino Indians but that's not true, I found this information below by using Google.

Google information below. Although a fairly modern carving, the broad facial features are clear, the strength of a dignified chief is evident. The carving represents Cacique (Chief) Mabodamaca, a Taino leader who tried to protect his people from the Spanish trying to take the land. His gray stone visage holds that protective and determined look in the eyes. Age and wisdom show in the unending gaze. It is worth slowing a bit as you pass by to a nearby beach or attraction in Porta del Sol, visitors typically pull up and park on the side of the street for a quick picture with the family and to purchase refreshments from the food stand next to the Chief. The legend goes that he leaped off the cliffs of Isabela to escape the capture of the Spanish. Nature made sure that Isabela’s beloved chief was not forgotten. You can find the original carving naturally carved by nature alone at Playa El Pastillo just down from...

I’m a local but I was bringing my husband it’s the first time he visited La Cara del Indio and wow David the guy that works on the little stand right in front of the Cara del Indio created the whole experience for that day. Especially with me mentioning his ear gages and I told him my Husband lost his in Buyé beach and he immediately started to create ones from scratch. He’s so genuine and generous please visit him and his cool birds let him personalize a necklace for you he’s Awesome can’t wait to go back and visit him again maybe I’ll bring some wood to get my gages done too!! Hope he’s rocking it out there with both locals...

It’s an extremely short experience in a very dangerous road spot (right between two curves) very difficult for drivers to see the people standing for photos. Therefore, exercise extreme caution, and keep children away! No place to park the vehicle other than a muddy area for about four cars! It is free, no tickets, but again, extremely dangerous location. A piece of great historical and artistic value that is Not maintained by the government at ALL! I lived in Isabela from 2020-2023 and still drive by that area at least once a month. Last time I drove by was last week June 22, 2024!...
