Black Mountain is an absolute gem! My wife, Devon, and I skied here on Saturday and Sunday, and it was an unforgettable experience.
Saturday was pure magic! We woke up to 7 inches of fresh powder, making for the best Pow Pow day we've ever had. We took a private expert ski lesson with Will, and it was nothing short of amazing. With just a few tweaks to our form and technique, we leveled up our skiing and crushed the weekend. Will is a true Ski Ambassadorβknowledgeable, patient, and passionate about the sport.
The atmosphere at Black Mountain is something special. Shaggy on the ski lift with his legendary "Wooo Hoo" call near the Lostbo Hut added so much fun to every ride up. The aprΓ¨s-ski scene was top-notchβchampagne in the afternoon at Lostbo Hut made for an epic midday celebration! We even met Eric, the GM, who was handing out warm chocolate chip cookies, making the experience even sweeter.
Sunday brought a wild weather shiftβSaturday was sunny and 45Β°F (shorts and t-shirt weather!), but by Sunday, it felt like -18Β°F. Despite the deep freeze, the mountain was in spectacular shape with pristine corduroy. Huge shoutout to Joe from Ops Managementβawesome guy, and we had a blast chatting with him! Mia in the dining area was super welcoming, Brittany from Membership Services was incredibly friendly, and Andrew at the Double Lift was fantastic. The food? Phenomenal. The lasagna and pizza were next-level delicious.
Black Mountain is truly one of a kindβyou could search the world and never find another place with the same charm, beauty, and character.
Canβt wait to come...

My first trip was on a Tuesday and mostly because I saw Black Mountain featured in a short film about independent ski areas called In Pursuit of Soul (a real tear jerker if you love a small mountain somewhere).
I don't often ride a chair, but lift tickets are crazy cheap here. The night before I arrived my ticket was pre-purchase online -- I take advantage of the $10 uphill pass for alpine touring. I called ahead to make sure it was OK for me to skin without a paper ticket before the office opens and was happily told that was just fine.
The first morning I arrived, I was greeted outside in the parking lot with a big welcome and warm smile by the woman I had spoken to on the phone. What a pleasant way to start the day!
The mountain wasn't too busy, the staff was fantastic, and the skiing was top notch. Now sitting here at the bar on a Monday after a couple laps, enjoying the spacious lodge. This place is noticeably busier than it was last week-- word is getting out this is the spot to be if you're traveling on 16 near Jackson.
Save your money on a corporate spot, spend it here. You wont be disappointed. And then leave a sweet google review after...

Had a lovely time skiing here on lift access until one time I did a ski tour. I returned to my car and a man raced across the parking lot in his Jeep, blocked me in, shouted at me, and told me I was trespassing and he was writing my plate down. I had not snuck in, I had not tried to get away, and had even looked at the website/facebook page to try and find out if uphill access was allowed beforehand.
I said I wouldn't do it again and have not set foot at the place in years and have no intention of doing so in the future. I have now heard of other instances of this, hence leaving the review to alert others as Black Mountain has not posted any new information.
Black Mountain: please update your website to say that you do not allow skinning. We are not out to rip you off, sue you, or cause problems. I understand your concerns about liability but please give people a fair chance, post info on your website, and mark the area with notifications that you do not allow uphill access if you are going to react so violently.
To anyone else: Wildcat currently allows skinning with a $10 pass and the doublehead ski trail is up the road a mile if...
