Bankhead Heritage House and Museum — Attraction in Jasper

The two story brick house in the photographs is the Bankhead House and Heritage Center and it is located between 8th and 9th Avenues. The white house was another Bankhead home, Sunset, but it is a private residence which is located about 10 blocks south of the other house, on 7th Avenue. The Bankhead House and Heritage Center, which was totally renovated a few years ago, and the Walker Community Foundation office which is located across the street from it are tremendous assets to the community.

Downtown Jasper has come out of the doldrums and is flourishing. It has several restaurants (Tex-Mex, New Orleans style food, casual, sushi, barbecue, etc.) and entertainment venues within blocks of the Walker County Courthouse (entertainment district). It is just a short drive from Interstate 22 to this area, plus the four lane on the north side of town has several restaurants of various varieties and several fast food...

We came to hear a concert at the amphitheatre and it was wonderful. What a cozy, intimate atmosphere. The tours of the house are reported to be amazing. A history lesson is Jasper. What a great place. They do concerts and movies here. Free popcorn. Dollar waters. If you are here come down and take a listen....
