Starting on the Long Trail from the 242, we hiked to the summit in 2 hours. It is a great hike and the view at the end is rewarding, but be sure to brings proper boots, walking sticks and lots of water. The path is pretty steep at certain points, especially at the end. Also, you have to go over snowmaking pipes at the end, not too difficult but for our dog it was some challenge (he needed water...

There are lots of hiking trails in the forest itself as well as on protected private lands abutting the forest. Most everyone I've met in these here hills are wonderful warm friendly people ESPECIALLY IF you enquire as to whether they would allow you to cross their property. Most do. So beautiful up here! So quiet that you actually know what quiet...

Jay State Forest covers 7,951 acres divided into two tracts, Black Falls (3,764 acres) and Big Jay (1,573 acres), which features Jay Peak and Jay Peak Resort.
