I recently had the pleasure of spending the day at Cauley Creek Park in Johns Creek, Georgia, and I must say that it was a worthwhile experience. This 203-acre park, which will open in June 2023, will offer a wide variety of activities and amenities to people of all ages.
The first thing that grabbed my attention was the variety of athletic activities. There are several multi-purpose fields, perfect for sports like soccer, lacrosse, and football. What impressed me most was the quality of these fields—they're covered with high-quality artificial turf, which makes them usable in any weather. Plus, the fields are well-lit, so evening games are a breeze, which is great for anyone with a packed daytime schedule.
Exploring the park further, I found a network of trails that are perfect for walking, running, or cycling. These trails wind through some truly beautiful areas of the park, giving me a chance to really soak in the natural surroundings. There are plenty of benches and rest areas along the way, which I appreciated when I needed a break. One of the best parts is how these trails connect to the larger greenway system in Johns Creek, so there's always more to explore if you're up for an adventure.
For families, Cauley Creek Park is a real gem. The playground area is fantastic—modern, safe, and full of engaging equipment for kids. I saw plenty of happy children climbing, swinging, and generally having a blast. Nearby, there are picnic areas with tables and grills, making it easy to plan a fun family outing or a casual barbecue with friends. Another highlight is the dog park, which is spacious and well-maintained. As a dog owner, it's always great to find a place where my furry friend can run off-leash and socialize with other dogs. The dog park here is divided into areas for large and small dogs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all pups.
In addition to all these amenities, Cauley Creek Park also has clean, well-kept restrooms, which is always a big plus. There's plenty of parking available, so I didn't have to worry about finding a spot even on a busy weekend.
Overall, my day at Cauley Creek Park was incredibly enjoyable. Whether you're looking to play sports, take a peaceful walk, enjoy a picnic, or let your kids and pets play, this park has something for everyone. It's a wonderful addition to Johns Creek and a place I’ll definitely be returning to often. So, I am definitely giving it a 4.5-5.0...
Read moreThe good: The park is beautiful. It feels like you are nowhere near a road. There are PLENTY of places to park and the parking lots are very nice. The trail is very nice. It’s about 1/2 shaded. The shade is very nice, lots of tall trees that form a canopy over the path. Some shorter trees that do the same, but overall super nice. The amenities are amazing. There’s 4 bathrooms along the 3.1 mile loop. The bathrooms are amazing, they smell like home depot and the soap I used was nothing shy of perfection. There are GIANT turf fields and natural grass fields as well. Completely fenced in and with plenty of places to rest while playing. The courts are amazing. There’s 2 full basketball courts, 4 or 6 pickleball only courts, and handball/concrete soccer courts. Along the trail there’s also lots of nice things. There’s multiple overlooks that provide vision to the river and small ponds. There is also a pond with a fountain that is stocked and shaded (I saw people fishing there). You pass by 2 barns. You also go over multiple bridges. The shaded parts are suitable for workouts. The turns aren’t very sharp, and they do a great job making it feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere. It is an amazing park especially for non running activities. This park will be amazing at sunset.
The bad: The trail material is only okay. It’s going to require a lot of maintenance as there is already a few holes and cracks within the surface. I did see that it was gravel underneath, so i’m hoping that they consider abandoning the rubber surface after it needs multiple resurfacing jobs. The rubber also reflects the sun, so in open areas (approx. 1/2 the trail) it is pretty blazing temperatures especially at this time of day. There is also not a hill really in the park, there is one accessible but it is more of an access road, and it asphalt.
Overall: If you are looking for pure running nearby, chat pointe is the place to be. If you are talking overall park, this is the spot. It is my 2nd favorite park i’ve been to and I will definitely be using it plenty more. It’s the perfect spot for an evening double with some barefoot strides and some fun...
Read moreUpdate2: go to see the wildflower super bloom! Just gorgeous all along the 5k track with the best section right by the 5k staging area parking lot. Update: The walking track is actually very comfortable to walk on in the winter. Still a couple of uneven spots where repairs have been performed. Plenty of bag stations now for pet waste disposal (somebody has been taking reviews seriously). A few desolate portions of the track, so if walking alone with sections where you can't see beyond a few feet scares you, I would use a better frequented park. Earlier: Walked the 5k rubberized track last weekend - it was squishy due to holding rainwater from the previous night(poor drainage), uneven/broken in parts, mostly no shade and generally still an immature park. Sports courts looked lovely but hot! Very few sections have dense vegetation. Can hear the road noises in most sections. Nowhere as nice as the more mature parks in the vicinity. Also expect doggy poo in multiple spots because unlike other pet-friendly parks there were not many stations with the disposable baggies. Playground seems to be popular already but again very little...
