Very disappointing. We saw one whale, so they met their obligation, but it really felt like they didn't put much effort into it. After the one whale, they then showed us 3 lighthouses.
We've taken several other whale watches in beautiful Juneau, and have always seen numerous whales. I don't mean to sound petty and ridiculous, because they obviously don't control the whales, but I expected some effort from professional, experienced, highly-rated whale watch operators. We booked an afternoon tour thinking we'd would have the benefit of any whale sightings from earlier that day, and that the operators would know where to go to seek out the whales.
If there are no whales at a particular spot, then why not move on and try the next spot? Instead of showing us a lighthouse, a lighthouse, and another lighthouse. We booked a whale watch, not a lighthouse tour. (I even went back and re-read the description, to make sure I didn't book a lighthouse tour by accident.)
The waters around Juneau are beautiful. But this wasn't what we were expecting at all. I sent them two follow-up emails, with no response other than a generic "Please take a moment to share your experience online." So, that was...
Read moreWe recently took a tour with Preston (captain) & Bailey(naturalist) in Juneau, Alaska. This tour was absolutely awesome. We were met by a very sweet young lady Alexa at the gang plank of our cruise ship. She made sure we got on the correct bus & knew what boat we would board. The mini bus driver shared so much insight about the area as we drove to the boat. We easily boarded our boat & were entertained & educated as we moved about the area looking for whales. The captain worked very hard contacting other ship captains to find the most active whales in the area to show us! His efforts were so appreciated!! We saw several whale tales, sea lions, seals & a majestic humpback feeding!! It was a spectacular sight!! They had snacks & drinks on board which made our 10 year old very happy. With Preston's great boat driving skills we were able to take some amazing photos & videos. He also lined up so we could get a beautiful family photo with the Mendenhall Glacier in the back! What great family memories!! Thank you Alaska...
Read moreWe were on a cruise and decided to look on Viator as we have used it in the past for some excursions. We decided to book through Viator instead of the cruise but either way, we were blown away by the tour. We did the Whale watch, lighthouse combo. We saw lots of whales, sea lions, birds, eagles. We saw 2 whales dive together! When we went to the lighthouse, there were stamps for the lighthouse and we were able to walk up a portion of the lighthouse as they are renovating it. It is an active renovation which is awesome to see. Some of us were looking at the view from the lighthouse and we saw orcas! When we got back on the boat, we were taken to the same area they were and everyone got to see them. This is probably the best whale watch tours I have done (previously done in Iceland and Boston). Our friends have a lighthouse book so it was cool to add this to their log as not many people visit. Tess, Cory, and Alan are amazing. It was a truly unique and amazing...
