Nugget Falls is one of the most breathtaking natural sights near Juneau, Alaska. Located at the base of the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, this powerful waterfall plunges dramatically into Mendenhall Lake, creating an unforgettable scene that feels straight out of a postcard. The short, easy hike from the visitor center makes it accessible to almost everyone, and the reward at the end is immense: the thunderous sound of water, the mist in the air, and the glacier looming in the background.

For photographers, Nugget Falls offers endless possibilities. Wide-angle shots can capture the entire landscape—glacier, lake, and waterfall together—while closer perspectives allow for creative studies of the water’s movement and the textures of the surrounding rocks. Early mornings and evenings often bring softer light and fewer crowds, while cloudy days create moody, atmospheric conditions perfect for long exposures.

Whether you’re visiting as a nature lover or with a camera in hand, Nugget Falls is an absolute highlight of Alaska’s natural beauty and a must-see...

I’m just now getting to adding all my adventures from my trip to Alaska. Time flies when you’re having fun and I couldn’t stop for reviews lol. Located near Mendenhall Glacier Nuggets Falls is a must! We paid for a tour to a few spots around town and the National Park was one part. Nugget Falls Trail itself is beautiful. Even more if you’re from the desert in Arizona like myself. I love for all things green and beautiful. The trail to the falls is paved and while pretty easy it could be a little far for some with issues walking etc. while you may make part of it with a wheelchair I wouldn’t recommend it. It was raining pretty good the day we went, but it didn’t detour us in the slightest. It was even more fun honestly . The end result was worth every second. The falls are beautiful and the sound of the water is unreal. You get an even more spectacular view of the glacier itself. Great photo...

NUGGET FALLS One of the most interesting natural features near Juneau, this spectacular waterfall plunges about 377 feet down the rugged mountainside into Mendenhall Lake about three-quarter miles south of the active face of Mendenhall Glacier. Powered by meltwater runoff from hanging Nugget Glacier, the cataract makes its descent in two tiers—99 feet and 278 feet—before gushing into the chilly, aquamarine water. Before the glacier receded over recent decades, the falls was said to actually splattered onto the ice itself. Some accounts say accumulating water would spread out across the glacier surface. The falls are just one aspect of the Mendenhall recreation area, with stunning views of retreating Mendenhall Glacier and a lake that can jostle with royal blue icebergs. #explorealaska #alaskaadventures #alaskatravel #alaskascenery #alaskanature #alaskacruises #nclbliss #alaskajuneau #coupleadventure #usaadventures #welivetoexplorer #nuggetfalls
