Man-made beach produced from the tailings of the long-gone mining operation whose ruins still stand here and are a favorite tourist attraction and local hangout. High winds make for good kite flying and, if you don't mind the sounds of float planes coming and going from the Lynn Canal, this is a fine place for a sunny day of fun and relaxation. Plenty of space and forest as a backdrop and a splendid view of Mt. Roberts, rising right out of the ocean to stand vigil over downtown Juneau and Douglas alike. Dogs are welcome! Restrooms and fountains with city water services. Adjacent is Juneau's one and only indoor ice arena and up the hill from the beach is Juneau Canopy Adventures which is a local zip-lining adventure through the forest.

Sandy. Many things to see and do at Savikko Park. For visitors and tourists I recommend the Treadwell Trail and the ruins of the gold mine operation you will discover. If you are adventurous bring your bathing suits 👙 and a picnic 🧺 lunch and swim at Sandy Beach. It’s a beautiful beach created by the sand left over by the gold purification process, but I was there in August and it was not warm enough for me to swim. I think the thing I like best was the Treadwell Trail.

Tour of the location of the gold mining town of Treadwell, AK, ca. 1880-1922. Travis, guide and owner of "Treadwell Alaska's Lost Mine Tour", grew up here and told us of the history, success, and ultimate failure of the mining operations, which ended the largest town in the area at the time. Assisted by IPads with gallery photos and virtual replacements of buildings on site made for an interesting and informative tour. Nice, level walk thru lovely, now forested park.
