Project Playground, also affectionately known as Castle Park, is truly one of Juneau’s gems when it comes to family-friendly spaces. It’s not just a playground—it’s a community hub that offers something for everyone.
One of my favorite features is how thoughtfully the park is laid out. It has multiple covered areas, which is a lifesaver on our classic rainy Juneau days, as well as plenty of picnic tables and park benches for parents, caregivers, or anyone who wants to just sit and enjoy the view. I also really appreciate that most of the playground is fully fenced in—this gives an extra layer of comfort for families with little ones who love to explore.
What really sets this park apart is its focus on accessibility and inclusivity. It’s one of the most wheelchair-friendly parks in Juneau, with wide ramps, smooth pathways, and play structures that are designed to be accessible to kids of all abilities. There are thoughtful features like wheelchair-accessible swings and sensory-friendly play elements that make sure no child feels left out. It’s clear this park was designed with everyone in mind.
The playground itself is incredibly fun and full of variety—there are areas for climbing, spinning, sliding, and imaginative play. It’s designed like a castle, which sparks creativity and invites endless adventure. The covered sections of the slides and towers can feel a little dark on those especially gloomy days, but it’s a small trade-off for how much weather protection the structures offer.
Overall, Project Playground is a fantastic spot for kids, families, and the community. Whether you’re looking to let your kids burn off energy, have a picnic by the water, or just enjoy a safe, inclusive place to play, this park checks all the boxes....

While spending the day in Juneau off our cruise ship, we needed a place where the kids could burn off some energy — and Twin Lakes Kids Playground was a perfect choice. Tucked right by the lakeside, this playground was a pleasant surprise.
The park was very clean and clearly well-maintained, with a wide variety of equipment to keep little ones busy. The kids especially loved the rock climbing wall and the swing-glider — but there were plenty of other engaging activities for different age levels. From climbing structures to creative play areas, they had more than enough to explore.
It was a great change of pace from sightseeing and a chance for the kids to just be kids. Highly recommend this spot if you're in Juneau with young ones and need a break from the usual...
Read moreThis is the most well-designed and interesting playground I have ever been to. The setting is beautiful, the equipment and surfaces are very safe, and there's a huge variety of things for children to do. It is next to a waterway where salmon spawn, so it can stink a little in spawning season--aside from that, I can't think of a single negative thing to say about the playground: if you have...
