JR Colombian Emeralds by JR Jewels — Attraction in Jupiter

I've been contemplating writing this review for a few days now, but I think the disappointing experience I had warrants it.

I made an appointment to come see some emerald rings and was in correspondence with Natalie through Instagram messages. She asked me a lot of questions about what I was looking for and I gave her specific answers about my price range, ring style, stone cut, etc, and mentioned that I'd be driving down from Orlando specifically for this. I expected that they'd put aside some rings for me to see based on the criteria I provided, and I got a message from her saying she was looking forward to seeing me a couple hours before our appointment.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Matthew who said we'd be working with Natalie, and he went to the back to get her but came out a minute later and said we'd actually be working with him instead. I had no issue with this, but then I noticed that he didn't seem to know what I was looking for and there hadn't been any rings set aside in advance. He started asking the same questions that Natalie had previously asked, and I told him that all this information was already provided and I expected them to be prepared for our appointment. He went to the back a couple more times and seemed to be discussing my criteria with Natalie, but Natalie was still not coming out. We had made a 2.5 hour drive and it felt like a disrespectful waste of time.

Matthew really made an effort to salvage the appointment and didn't want me to be disappointed, but the total lack of preparation on Natalie's part really put a damper on the whole thing. We had to awkwardly scramble around the whole store multiple times, trying to scan through every ring and find the ones that fit my style and budget. He eventually brought the entire case of loose stones out for us to comb through, but it was the same issue — too many choices and no idea which ones fit my criteria. Natalie never once acknowledged my presence in the store, and only came out when another couple walked in and needed assistance.

I set myself a starting budget that I was willing to increase based on how good the experience was or finding the right ring, but I quickly realized that this store was not putting anywhere near the level of effort I would expect in order to justify spending thousands of dollars on their rings. I'm a very experienced jewelry buyer and was looking forward to adding an emerald ring to my collection, but my search will have to continue elsewhere.

Overall, I appreciate the kindness and professionalism that Matthew showed but I can't say the same for Natalie. Before we left the store, I was contemplating creating a custom ring after finally finding a stone and ring setting that I liked, but upon reflection, my experience left such a sour taste in my mouth that I don't think I'll ever do business with JR Colombian Emeralds. JR Jewels is simply amazing! They are a proud family owned and run business that specializes in Colombian emeralds. I have bought two amazing emerald rings from them and I will absolutely be buying more emerald jewelry from them in the future! I bought both of my rings from them online, and while buying any big purchase online (especially jewelry) can be a HUGE gamble, I felt very well informed and comfortable during the entire process. Communication was absolutely excellent, especially from Natalie, who is the owner’s wonderful daughter. I had one ring custom made, and while the emerald for the ring had to be sourced, she assured me that the color and clarity of the ring would be exactly what I wanted, and it WAS and MORE!! They do their absolute best to work with you and make sure you are competely satisfied with your purchase!

My second ring was a top quality, velvety dark Muzo green round emerald that was absolutely AMAZING! I got it for an excellent price, much lower than the advertised cost, and it was shipped promptly. Then, literally after a couple hours of recieving it in the mail, I accidentally DROPPED it on a hard floor and the edge of the stone chipped and a diamond fell out (AAAHHHHH)! I was SO UPSET and was beside myself! I contacted JR Jewels immediately and they told me not to worry and that they would repair it and I shipped the ring back to them. They fixed the stone and replaced the diamond and kept me updated at every step of the way. They did such an amazing, miraculous job that it seriously looks the same as before I damaged it.. I can’t even tell it WAS damaged! AND... they did it all at an incredible price considering the work that needed to be done!

I am just soooo completely blown away and satisfied with JR Jewels. They are amazing and have pieces at all different qualities and price points for every budget and taste. Their communication and customer service is some of the best I’ve ever had, and they are so friendly and relatable that you feel like a friend and not just a customer. I will definitely be buying from them again and I would recommend them in a heartbeat! While the emerald ring itself is undeniably beautiful, our overall experience with JR Colombian Emeralds was disappointing—especially considering the importance of an engagement purchase.

My fiancé selected this ring because it was clearly advertised as 18K yellow gold, which we both preferred. However, the ring we received was 14K gold. Although my fiancé used a discount link offered after adding the ring to his cart, there was no indication that this would alter the gold quality. As a result, he believed he was purchasing the same ring as advertised, just at a promotional price. This lack of clarity felt misleading.

Adding to the confusion, the certificate of authenticity that accompanied the ring listed the metal as platinum, which was neither what was advertised nor what was delivered. This inconsistency made us question the accuracy of the documentation and overall communication.

Given that this was an engagement ring, we had hoped for greater transparency and attention to detail. When we contacted the company, they responded by offering a $400 reimbursement and a corrected certificate, which we appreciated. However, we feel that the reimbursement may not reflect the true value difference between 18K and 14K gold—particularly for a fine jewelry item where material quality contributes significantly to its long-term value and meaning.

We also inquired about the possibility of having the ring remade in 18K gold, and were told this was not recommended as it could affect the quality of the emerald. While we understand their caution, it was disappointing not to have been informed of this limitation at the time of purchase or given the option beforehand.

In short, while the craftsmanship of the ring is lovely, we were let down by the lack of transparency and inconsistent documentation. For such a meaningful piece, clear communication and trust are essential. We hope the company takes steps to improve these areas for...
