This is a nature preserve in the heart of the city. It's owned by Western Michigan University. There are several access points. There are no parking lots, just on street parking. There are no "facilities" available. I would not recommend taking a wheelchair or stroller. That said, it's an interesting and educational stop for anyone, including families with children. There are brochures available at the map stations profiling the plants, birds and animals that call this area home. There are a few benches where one can sit and relax after walking or running the oval. My grandchildren always enjoy a walk in Kleinstuck and keep track of how much water is in the marsh compared to the last time...

Kleinstuck is a unique little nature preserve. Although it’s smack dab in the middle of kalamazoo, it hosts a massive variety of wild birds and other critters. The deer are unsurprisingly tame, and easy to photograph. I also recommend attending the kleinstuck volunteer day, which is on the second sunday of every month. The people who run it are quite friendly! However, I do have a warning about this preserve. The trails run very close to private property. If you go even 7 feet off trail, you risk having a land owner yell at you. As long as you’re conscious of the boundaries, I think it’s a nice little place for a...

Quiet, serene, and splendorous, Kleinstuck Preserve is one of the major perks of living in the area. It's ~0.7 mile loop around the swamp is perfect for running, dog walks, and just enjoying the scenery. There are multiple benches for enjoying the view of the marshland, which is a beautifully preserved example of one of the most diverse biomes in the region. It is lovingly attended to by students and scientists from Western Michigan so it is always clean and well kept. It's proximity to downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods make this rare preserved plot of gorgeous marshland a true gem to...

Really just a big circle trail with aerobic offshoots if you like. Saw several Jack-in-th-Pulpit wildflowers so, the trip was worth it (2022). (2023) Came for the Wildflowers but was here too early. Luckily, I saw about 20 Pileated Woodpeckers and got some good pix. (2024) This place desperately needs signage. Started out first going to a house, then backtrack and try another path that took me up, up, up to a dead end (boo). Won't be back.

Awesome little preserve tucked away in the city. Main loop is a little over a half mile long and circles a small bog. Trail is 60% well-packed dirt, 40% gravel. There are several alternate trails that branch off the main loop and venture into the surrounding woods. I see deer on a daily basis, and have seen predatory birds as well as a mating pair of foxes! this winter.
